SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ************************************************************ 1. The software included with this distribution package is designed to operate with the following chipset configurations: Intel(r) 82440MX Chipset 2. It is recommended that the kit software is installed on systems with at least 32MB of system memory. 3. It is recommended that there is sufficient hard disk space in the <TEMP> directory (typically C:\WINDOWS\TEMP) on the system to install this software. The Windows 95 INF files included with this distribution package are designed to function with the following versions of Windows 95: Windows 95 4.00.950 (Retail Release) Windows 95 4.00.950b (OSR2 without USB Supplement) Windows 95 4.00.950b (OSR2.1 with USB Supplement) Windows 95 4.00.950c (OSR2.5 with or without USB Supplement) The Windows 98 INF files included with this distribution package are designed to function with the following version of Windows 98: Windows 98 4.10.1998 Please check with your system provider to determine which operating system and Intel chipset are used in your system. ************************************************************ * 3. INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE ************************************************************ ************************************************************ * 3a. INSTALLING THE MAIN DISTRIBUTION PACKAGE ************************************************************ 1. Check the System Requirements. Windows 95 or Windows 98 must be fully installed and running on the system prior to running this software. 2. Close any running applications. You may experience some difficulties if you don't do this. 3. Run the InstallShield installation program. 4. You will be prompted to agree to the license agreement. If you do not agree, the Installer will exit prior to extracting any files. 5. The INF files will be copied to the target directory C:\Program Files\Intel\IntelINF by default. If desired, change the target directory by selecting 'Browse.' This directory will henceforth be referred to as <INF Installation Directory> 6. The INF files are now contained within two subdirectories under the <INF Installation Directory>: \Win98 and \Win95. ************************************************************ * 3b. INSTALLING THE WINDOWS 98 INF FILES PRIOR TO OS * INSTALLATION ************************************************************ The Windows 98 distribution CD contains a setup directory with all the base OS setup files (*.CAB) and installation program (SETUP.EXE). The name of the directory can vary depending on the distribution CD. (i.e. \WIN98\) 1. Copy the OS installation files from the Windows 98 setup directory to a directory on the hard disk. This procedure requires a large amount of disk storage. It is important to make sure this is enough disk space before beginning the copy process. This directory shall be referred to as the <WIN98 Setup Directory>. 2. Copy the Windows 98 INF files from the <INF Installation Directory> to the setup directory identified in Step 1 above. 3. Run SETUP.EXE to install Windows 98. ************************************************************ * 3c. INSTALLING THE WINDOWS 95 INF FILES PRIOR TO OS * INSTALLATION ************************************************************ The Windows 95 distribution CD contains a setup directory with all the base OS setup files (*.CAB) and installation program (SETUP.EXE). RELEASE NOTES ************************************************************ ************************************************************ * 5a. RELEASE-SPECIFIC INFORMATION ************************************************************ Version 0.50 is a Alpha release of INF Files for Intel(r) 82440MX Chipsets. ************************************************************ * 5b. CHANGES INCLUDED FROM THE PREVIOUS RELEASE ************************************************************ None. ************************************************************ * 5c. SOLUTIONS TO COMMON INSTALLATION PROBLEMS ************************************************************ It is assumed that the system requirements from Section 2 above have been satisfied. Issue: Distribution package program software fails to install. Solution: The distribution package program is a Windows SETUP executable. It assumes that there is sufficient disk space to execute the program in the <TEMP> directory (typically C:\WINDOWS\TEMP). If this problem occurs, free up some disk space in the TEMP area and re-install the software following the procedures in Section 3. Installing the Software. Issue: System locks up during Device Manager Remove or during restart. Solution: System lockup can occur during Restart as a result of several possible system issues. In the event of system lockup, restart the machine and view Device Manager. If devices are listed properly and system experiences no further problems, then .INF file restore process was successful. If devices are not configured correctly try re-running the procedures outlined in Section 3. If this does not fix problems or further problems are experienced, re-install the operating system. ************************************************************ ************************************************************ * DISCLAIMER ************************************************************ Intel is making no claims of usability, efficacy or warranty.
