3. Installation

This section describes the steps to install a ELSA Display
        Driver for Windows 95.
Please note the differences depending on you install
Windows 95 the first time with a ELSA graphics board in your
computer or you put the ELSA graphics board in a computer with
        a running Windows 95.
There are also differences between the installation procedure
on Windows 95 Build 950 and the new OEM Sevice Release 2
        (OSR2, Build 950 B)

        Installing Windows 95 Build 950 3.1
        Installing ELSA graphics board on
        Windows 95 Build 950 3.2
        Installing Windows 95 Build 950 B 3.3
        Installing ELSA graphics board on
        Windows 95 Build 950 B 3.4

3.1 Installing Windows 95 Build 950a

Put the ELSA graphics board into your computer. Be sure that
the VGA-Switch on your ELSA graphics board is in the "1"
position (VGA enabled). You must not have another VGA Board in
        your computer.
Now switch your computer on and start the Windows 95
installation. After finishing the installation procedure,
Windows 95 works in VGA Mode. Start the Control Panel
Application "System" and select the property page "Device
Manager". Under "other devices" select the "PCI Early VGA
Device" and show its Properties. On the property page "Driver"
you can install a new Driver with the button "Change
Driver...". The Hardware Type is "Display adapter". Now select
the proper GLoria subdirectory on the ELSA CD and follow the
instructions given by Windows 95. After the reboot select the
Control Panel Application "System" again. In the device Manager
select under "Display adapters" the "Standard Display Adapter
(VGA)" and "Remove" it. You can confirm the Warning with "OK".
After restarting Windows 95 the ELSA display drivers will be
        active.

3.2 Installing ELSA graphics board on a running Windows 95 system

Remove your "old" VGA and put the ELSA graphics board into your
computer. Be sure that the VGA-Switch on your ELSA graphics
board is in the "1" position (VGA enabled). You must not have
another VGA Board in your computer.
On startup Windows 95 detects the ELSA graphics board as
"PCI early VGA Device" and promts for a manufacturer disk. Now
browse throught the ELSA CD and select the proper display
driver subdirectory. Windows will copy the driver files and
prompt you to reboot the computer.
After restarting, Windows is running with the ELSA display
        drivers active.

3.3 Installing Windows 95 Build 950 B (OSR-2)

Put the ELSA graphics board into your computer. Be sure that
the VGA-Switch on your ELSA graphics board is in the "1"
position (VGA enabled). You must not have another VGA Board in
        your computer.
Now switch your computer on and start the Windows 95
installation. After finishing the installation procedure,
Windows 95 works in VGA Mode.
Install the driver for the ELSA graphics board with the
Windows 95 standard procedure ("Display Properties\Settings\
        Advanced Properties\Adapter\Change\Have Disk...\Browse..."). Now
follow the instructions given by Windows 95. After restarting
Windows 95 the ELSA display drivers will be active.

3.4 Installing the WINNER into a running Windows 95 OSR2 system

Remove your "old" VGA and put the ELSA graphics board into your
computer. Be sure that the VGA-Switch on your ELSA graphics
board is in the "1" position (VGA enabled).
On startup Windows 95 detects a "PCI Early non-VGA Device and
start the "Update Device Driver Wizard". Follow the
instructions and select "Other Locations...\Browse..." and
search the directory on the ELSA CD matching to your board
(e.g. GLORIA\L\WIN95). Continue following the instructions and
reenter the matching directory on the ELSA CD. After restarting
Windows 95 the ELSA display drivers will be active.

5. Release notes

5.1 ELSA.INI entries

The working mode of the driver can manipulate by entries in the
file ELSA.INI. Normally you will need to reboot your machine to
        make this settings working.

Most of this entries will set by ELSA tools and don't need to
        modify manually.

5.2 DirectX5 and AGP

AGP is supported only by the Windows version OSR-2.1. This is
available after upgrading a Windows 95b (OSR2) version by the
        USB-Update 'USBSUPP.EXE'.
The version number of your installed Windows can be found in
        the registry under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
        Windows\CurrentVersion\Version and VersionNumber.
        The Entries for OSR-2.1 are:

        Version "Windows95"
        VersionNumber "4.03.1212" or "4.03.1214"

5.3 Not supported features

The MultiMan dispatcher does not support hardware accelerated
OpenGL or video in/out functionality. If these parts were
installed before the multiscreen driver, they will be
        deactivated by the driver.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

6. Known Bugs and Operating Notes

This section documents known anomalies or problems and gives
        hints on work arounds.

6.1 Version 4.10.01.0203-0009

6.1.1 Changing color depth with QuickRes

If QuickRes changes the color depth without restarting Windows,
sometime you can see drawing errors. QuickRes patches (!) the
display driver, so the driver can no longer work properly.

6.1.2 Display errors with DirectX

Applications using DirectX could cause display errors when
DirectX version I or II is installed. Please install DirectX
version 5 or 6 to solve this problems. This version of DirectX
you will find on the WINNERware CD in the directory
        MSAPPS\DIRECTX5/6.

6.1.3 Display errors with screensaver "Scrolling Marquee"

6.1.4 Changing monitors order

If the monitors order is reverted, DirectDraw and Direct3D-
client windows appear on the primary display adapter even
if the application was started on an other device. The mainframe
of the program stays on this monitor.
