MobileSURFR 56K Modem V.90/Cellular Upgrade Instructions

There are two steps to preparing your MobileSURFR 56K Modem for 
V.90/Cellular connections.  The first is to upgrade you modem's 
software.  The next step is to re-install your modem under 
Windows 95.

Upgrade Procedure for the MobileSURFR 56K Modem

1. Run Flashup.EXE from the folder where you extracted this file.  
2. Follow the on screen instructions for installing and running 
FlashUp which will upgrade the software of your MobileSURFR to V.90, making
it cellular capable.

Reinstall Procedure for the MobileSURFR 56K Modem in Windows 95

Part A: Removing old drivers

4. Click on START button, highlight SETTINGS and click on CONTROL 
PANEL.
5. DOUBLE CLICK on the MODEMS icon. Highlight the MobileSURFR 56K 
Modem listed in the window and click on the REMOVE button.
6. Click on the CLOSE button and then close the CONTROL PANEL.
7. Click on START, highlight PROGRAMS and then click on WINDOWS 
EXPLORER.
8. In the upper left corner click on VIEW then click on OPTIONS.  
In the OPTIONS windows make sure the SHOW ALL FILES is 
selected then click on OK.
8a.  IF you have Internet Explorer 4.0 go to View then click on 
Folder Options.  Choose the View tab and scroll down to Hidden 
Files. Under Hidden Files make sure that a dot is in Show All 
Files then select OK.
9. Click on TOOLS, highlight FIND, then click on FILES OR 
FOLDERS.
10. In the window labeled "LOOK IN" type "C:\WINDOWS\INF" .  The 
window labeled "NAMED" should remain blank. Click on the ADVANCED 
tab.
11. In the window labeled "CONTAINING TEXT" type MobileSURFR .  
Click on the FIND NOW button.
11a. If you have Internet Explorer 4.0 go to Tools, highlight 
FIND, then click on FILES OR FOLDERS. In the "Look In" window 
type "C:\WINDOWS\INF" . In the window labeled "CONTAINING TEXT" 
type MobileSURFR . 
Click on the FIND NOW button.
12. On the keyboard press CTRL A then press DELETE and send all 
files to the RECYCLE BIN .
13. Remove modem from PCMCIA slot (if not already removed).
14. Close all windows, click on the START button, click on 
SHUTDOWN , choose RESTART THE COMPUTER and click the YES button.
15. Wait for the computer to fully reboot into Windows.

Part B: Reinstalling new drivers

1. Right click on RECYCLE BIN and choose EMPTY RECYCLE BIN.
2. Insert modem into PCMCIA slot. A window should appear saying 
"BUILDING DRIVER INFORMATION DATABASE."
3. A "UPDATE DEVICE DRIVER WIZARD" window should appear. 
4. Insert the 3.5" floppy MobileSURFR Flasher Disk in the floppy 
drive.  Click on the NEXT button.
5. The next window should state that it found an updated driver 
for your device.  Click on the FINISH button.
6. Your new MobileSURFR drivers are now installed.  Now go to 
Control Panel
and Highlight the MobileSurfr, and Click on Properties.  From 
Properties go to Connection, Advance and make sure that Use 
Cellular Protocol is checked.
7.  Close all Windows and you are ready to use the modem.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
