1. Hardware Requirements

This audio driver is designed to work with the following AC97 audio
controllers:
		CS4299
		CS4201

4. Installing the Driver

Before You Begin
------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you already have a WDM-style driver installed (whether you or the
operating system installed it), make sure you uninstall the driver
before installing a different one. For details, see "Uninstalling the
Driver."

Installing the Driver in Windows 98 Second Edition
------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the computer restarts and you log in (if necessary), the Add New
Hardware wizard appears to help you find and install a driver for the
audio controller (labeled PCI Multimedia Audio Device).

To install the driver in Windows 98 SE, follow these steps:

1. Click Next.
   The next page appears asking you what you want to do.

2. Click "Search for the best driver for your device", and then click
Next.
   The next page appears asking you which locations should be searched.

3. Click the checkboxes so that only the "Specify a location" checkbox
is selected.

4. In the drop-down list box, type the pathname for the driver you want
to install (or use the Browse button), and then click Next.

5. If a page appears asking you what you want to install, click "The
updated driver", and then click Next.
   The next page appears indicating the location of the driver that
Windows is going to install.

7. Click Next.
   Windows copies the driver files to their appropriate folders on your
hard disk.

8. Click Finish.
   A series of windows appears telling you that Windows is installing
the driver.

Installing the Driver in Windows Millennium Edition
------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the computer restarts and you log in (if necessary), the Add New
Hardware wizard appears to help you find and install a driver for the
audio controller (labeled PCI Multimedia Audio Device).

To install the driver in Windows ME, follow these steps:

1. Click "Specify the location of the driver (Advanced)", and then click
Next.

2. Click "Search for the best driver for your device". Click the
checkboxes so that only the "Specify a location" checkbox is selected.

3. In the drop-down list box, type the pathname for the driver you want
to install (or use the Browse button), and then click Next.
   The next page appears indicating the location of the driver that
Windows is going to install.

4. Click Next.
   Windows copies the driver files to their appropriate folders on your
hard disk.
   If the Digital Signature Notification dialog box appears instead, you
need to change the Digital Signature settings to allow you to install
unsigned drivers. To do this, click Advanced to display the Digital
Signature Advanced Settings dialog box. Click "Warn when installing
unsigned devices", and then click OK. Click Yes to indicate that you want
to continue the installation, and then click OK.

5. Click Finish.
   A series of windows appears telling you that Windows is installing
the driver.
   If the Digital Signature Notification dialog box appears, asking if
you want to install an unsigned driver, click Yes and then click OK.

Installing the Driver in Windows 2000
------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the computer restarts and you log in as administrator, the Found
New Hardware wizard appears to help you find and install a driver for
the audio controller (labeled PCI Multimedia Audio Device).

To install the driver in Windows 2000, follow these steps:

1. Click Next.
   The next page appears asking you what you want to do.

2. Click "Search for a suitable driver for my device", and then click
Next.
   The next page appears asking you which locations should be searched.

3. Click the checkboxes so that only the "Specify a location" checkbox
is selected, and then click Next.
   A dialog box appears asking for the location of the driver.

4. In the drop-down list box, type the pathname for the driver you want
to install (or use the Browse button), and then click OK.
   The next page appears indicating the location of the driver that
Windows is going to install.

5. Click Next.
   If the Digital Signature Not Found dialog box appears, asking if you
want to continue the installation, click Yes.
   Windows copies the driver files to their appropriate folders on your
hard disk.

6. Click Finish.
   A series of windows appears telling you that Windows is installing
the driver.
   If the Digital Signature Not Found dialog box appears, asking if you
want to continue the installation, click Yes.

5. Uninstalling the Driver
========================================================================

To uninstall the driver, follow these steps:

1. From the folder that contains the most recent driver, double-click
Setup.
   The Crystal Audio Setup window appears.

2. Click Uninstall.
   After the driver is uninstalled, a window appears telling you that
you need to restart your computer.

3. Click Restart.
   Your computer restarts. To install a different driver, see
"Installing the Driver."

   option fixes audio quality.   Fix in next driver build.
2. Poor recording quality with VIA chipsets (only).  Fix in next driver build.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
