If the INSTALL.EXE program does not work correctly please install and configure the enabler and network operating system files manually. Installation of the enabler is described in section 3. Installation of the network operating system drivers is described in README.TXT files in each of the appropriate directories. 2.1 Overview of the INSTALL.EXE Program A. Can auto-configure the PCMCIA LAN+56K Modem PC Card for most notebook computers. B. Can modify some Networking Operating System files that are necessary for your PCMCIA LAN+56K Modem PC Card under the following networking systems: Novell Netware Microsoft LAN Manger Microsoft Windows for Workgroups Packet Driver C. Can copy the proper files to the subdirectories where the network operating system files are installed. 2.2 What You Need Before Running INSTALL.EXE A. Before installing your PCMCIA LAN+56K Modem PC Card, you must first make sure that your network operating system is already installed. B. Make sure that the PCMCIA LAN+56K Modem PC Card has been inserted into your system's PCMCIA socket. 2.3 How to run INSTALL.EXE program To run INSTALL.EXE, at the DOS prompt type: A:\>INSTALL Read each screen carefully and respond appropriately to each prompt. 3.0 Manually Installing and Configuring the Enabling Software 3.1 Overview of Enabling Software As with other PCMCIA devices, the PCMCIA LAN+56K Modem PC Card must be enabled by a software program before it can be used. Whenever the card has been powered off (when the card is removed or the computer goes into "sleep" mode), the enabler must be executed again. 3.2 Installing the Enabling Software Manually 3.2.1 Overview of the Enabler Program --- COMBO.EXE The enabler COMBO.EXE program contained on this disk is used both as a device driver used in your computer's CONFIG.SYS file, and also as an executable program run from the DOS prompt. 3.2.2 Using COMBO.EXE in CONFIG.SYS You can create or modify your system's CONFIG.SYS using a text editor. The enabler CONFIG.SYS command line has the format: DEVICE=[path]\COMBO.EXE [/MEM=mm] [/IO=ppp] [/IRQ=x] [/COMn | /COMn:qqq,y] where [path] is the drive and pathname of the directory containing COMBO.EXE. Valid options: mm = Attribute memory window address (C0, C4, C8, CC, D0, D4, D8, DC), default is D8. ppp = IO base for LAN (300, 320, 340, 360), default is 300. x = Interrupt number for LAN (5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15), default is 5. n = COM port (2, 3, 4), default is 2. qqq = IO base for COM port (3F8, 2F8, 3E8, 2E8), default is 2F8. y = Interrupt number for COM port (3, 4, 5, 7, 9), default is 3. 3.2.3 Using COMBO.EXE from the DOS Prompt The enabler DOS command line has the format: COMBO [/MEM=mm] [/IO=ppp] [/IRQ=x] [/COMn | /COMn:qqq,y] [/SKT=z] [/L] [/F] [/?] Valid options: mm = Attribute memory window address (C0, C4, C8, CC, D0, D4, D8, DC), default is D8. ppp = IO base for LAN (300, 320, 340, 360), default is 300. x = Interrupt number for LAN (5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15), default is 5. n = COM port (2, 3, 4), default is 2. qqq = IO base for COM port (3F8, 2F8, 3E8, 2E8), default is 2F8. y = Interrupt number for COM port (3, 4, 5, 7, 9), default is 3. z = Socket (0 to 7), automatically detected. /L Enable LAN only. /F Enable FAX/MODEM only. /? Displays this screen. Note: If the /SKT parameter is omitted, COMBO.EXE will automatically detect the socket where the card is inserted. 3.2.4 Cautions A. If you add the "DEVICE=[path]\COMBO.EXE ...." line after any memory management software, you should tell the memory manager to exclude the memory area set by /MEM=mm parameter. Consult the following table to determine what memory address ranges to exclude: Setting Range ---------------------------- /MEM=C0 X=C000-C3FF /MEM=C4 X=C400-C7FF /MEM=C8 X=C800-CBFF /MEM=CC X=CC00-CFFF /MEM=D0 X=D000-D3FF /MEM=D4 X=D400-D7FF /MEM=D8 X=D800-DBFF /MEM=DC X=DC00-DFFF B. The default settings for COM port are following: Setting I/O Base IRQ ---------------------------------- /COM2 2F8 3 /COM3 3E8 4 /COM4 2E8 3 4.0 Manually Installing and Configuring the Network Drivers You can find additional information about network device drivers in the README.TXT files located in each of the respective subdirectories. 5.0 Diagnostic --- DIAG.EXE DIAG.EXE will run the following test to make sure the hardware components of your LAN+56K Modem COMBO PC Card are functional: I/O Port Assignment NIC Register Access On-board RAM Buffer Test Loopback through ENC Loopback through ENA Loopback to UTP 6.0 Installing Client Driver under SystemSoft's CardSoft SystemSoft's CardSoft provides Socket Service, Card Service and Card Identification Client drivers. CardSoft supports Intel 82365SL PCIC and Databook TCIC-2/N and other PCMCIA controllers. Each of these PCMCIA controllers requires a different Socket Service driver program. The client device driver, CARDID.EXE, detects the insertion and removal of Combo PC Card, automatically determines the Combo PC Card as a FAX/Modem Card upon insertion, and configures the card and slot.Download Driver Pack
