SMSC cards are shipped with the flash RAM preprogrammed. This procedure is only needed in case you want to reprogram it. 1. Boot to Dos 2. Plug in the card in the first cardbus slot (0) 3. Enable the card using the bridge.com (dual function enabler) or smccardb.exe (single function enabler) program.(\DOSODI directory) 4. At this point depending upon the contents of the flash the card may appear with the modem enabled or not (even if you run smccardb.exe). For the puposes of programming the flash the modem accesibility is not necessary so do not worry f if does nos show up. 5. Run DIAG.EXE (\UTIL directory), the opening screen will list all the SMSC devices found with a device/function number index to their left 6. Select the Ethernet function (the command "D<n>", where n = 0,1,2, etc index shown in the list displayed in 6, selects which device to use.) 7. Set the ROMWR_EN bit (8) in NVCTL_E register (offset 10h). In order not to change the NVCTL_E register other bits, before writting to the register you can see the whole register map of EPIC-C by typing the command "R". You can write to any register by using the Output commands using the port addres (base + offset) and data parameters writen in hexadecimal format. (i.e: "O.W 7010 d337") 8. Similarly, though not always necessary you can assure proper access to the PCI Extension ROM area (where the Flash resides) by writting to register 30h in PCI configuration space (i.e "WC 30 000D0001") 9. Select the file name you want to write to the flash (this file has to be a binary image of the contents to be transfered) with the command "N <filename>" 10. Perform the Flash wrtiting by running the Program flash command "PF" 12. Follow the onscreen instructions to provide the Node address of the board and finish the programming. 13. You can verify the file was properly written by reading the flash contens with the command "RO <init> <end>" where init and end are the initial and ending values of the range to read from the flash.Download Driver Pack
