2) How to Install Jeronimo 2000 Drivers and HydraVision
=====================================================================
Jeronimo 2000 drivers and HydraVision software run under Windows NT
4.0. To install Jeronimo 2000 drivers and HydraVision software,
please use the CD-ROM or diskettes that shipped with the Jeronimo
2000 card and perform the following steps.

NOTE: If you downloaded the Jeronimo 2000 driver package from the
internet, unzip the downloaded file to a temporary subdirectory
on your hard drive. Appian recommends unzipping files to your
hard drive rather than to floppy disks as the driver files may
be larger than the 1.44 MB capacity of a single diskette. The
subdirectory you create on your hard drive should be empty of
all files prior to unzipping the Jeronimo 2000 driver files. This
temporary subdirectory can be deleted after driver installation.

a)	Boot your system in VGA mode. From the boot menu, select
Windows NT Workstation Version 4.0 [VGA Mode] at the
prompt. Browse to the location of the driver installation
files on the hard drive or insert the Appian Jeronimo 2000
CD-ROM or diskette into the appropriate drive.

b)	From the START button on the taskbar, select SETTINGS,
	then CONTROL PANEL.

c)	Double-click the DISPLAY icon.

d)	Select the SETTINGS tab, then click the DISPLAY TYPE
	button.

e)	Click the CHANGE button.

f)	Click the HAVE DISK button. Select the path to the
Windows NT driver files using the BROWSE button.

g)	Click OK. The Change Display window reappears with the
	Jeronimo 2000 drivers displayed.

h)	Select the desired language and click OK.

i)	A warning box from Windows NT appears stating that
you are installing third-party software drivers.
	Click YES to proceed.

j)	The Jeronimo 2000 driver files and HydraVision software
are now installed, and a message appears confirming
	successful installation. Click OK.

k)	Click CLOSE to exit.

l)	You are returned to the Display Properties dialog box.
	Click CLOSE to exit.

m)	You will now be prompted by Windows to restart your
	system. Click YES.

n)	Windows now restarts in 640x480 single monitor mode.
This and other settings can be changed in the Display
Properties dialog box. The resolution, refresh rate, and
bit depth settings for the Jeronimo 2000 can be changed
from the Settings tab in Display Properties. When selecting
display options, keep in mind that most applications
require a color depth greater than 256 colors for optimal
	display.

3) How to Install Multiple Jeronimo 2000 Cards
=====================================================================
HydraVision software will automatically recognize and use more than
one Jeronimo 2000 card if it is detected in the system. However,
when using multiple Jeronimo 2000 cards in a single system, Appian
recommends installing each card separately. To install multiple
Jeronimo 2000 cards, perform the following steps:

a)	Complete the hardware installation for a single Jeronimo
2000 card, using the instructions in the Jeronimo 2000
	User's Guide.

b)	Boot up the system.

c)	Install the Jeronimo 2000 driver files and HydraVision
software, using the instructions in the Jeronimo 2000 User's
	Guide.

d)	Verify that the system is operating properly.

e)	Install additional cards in the system. HydraVision will
automatically detect and use the additional cards.

f)	Monitors can now be enabled from the MULTI-MONITOR dialog by
double-clicking the monitor number in the list box.

4) How to Uninstall Jeronimo 2000 Drivers and HydraVision
=====================================================================
To uninstall the Jeronimo 2000 drivers and HydraVision software in
Windows NT 4.0, boot your system in VGA mode and use the Windows
Add/Remove Programs control panel utility.

5) International Support
=====================================================================
HydraVision provides support for Brazilian Portuguese, Danish, Dutch,
Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian,
Spanish, Swedish, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. If you
are running Windows NT 4.0 in any of these languages, HydraVision
will automatically load the appropriate localized Control Panel. If
you are running Windows NT 4.0 in a non-supported language, the
HydraVision Control Panel will be available in English only.

6) Multiple Monitor DirectX Support
=====================================================================
DirectX is incompatible with graphics devices that use more than
one frame buffer in NT 4.0, such as the Appian Jeronimo 2000 card.
DirectX assumes that the screen is fully contained in one frame buffer
and will access the frame buffer directly, bypassing Appian's driver.
When this occurs, the DirectX operation may fail. Appian has
developed technology (AppianDX) that monitors this scenario and
manages the DirectX interface to allow for proper operation. This
solves DirectX compatibility issues with multiple monitors. However,
AppianDX works only with DirectX applications that use off-screen
memory as opposed to writing data directly to the screen.

The Jeronimo 2000 card supports the following DirectX operations:

a)	Exclusive Mode (DirectX takes over the entire screen).
The Jeronimo 2000 supports this mode with no errors.

b)	Windowed Mode (DirectX plays back in a window). The Jeronimo
2000 card supports this mode on the primary monitor without
errors. The Jeronimo 2000 supports this mode across multiple
monitors as long as the DirectX application writes to
off-screen memory rather than writing data directly to the
	screen.

c)	Disabled Mode (DirectX is disabled via the HydraVision
Control Panel). In this case, all operations will work but
hardware acceleration will not be used. This will result in
	reduced performance.

In Windows NT 4.0, the Enable AppianDX checkbox (located under
Performance Options on the Multi-Monitor tab) controls whether or not
hardware acceleration is used for DirectX. If you are having problems
with a DirectX application, please disable DirectX acceleration.

Please note that you cannot run one DirectX application in windowed
mode and another DirectX application in exclusive mode simultaneously
with any graphics adapter.

7) Multiple Monitor OpenGL Support
=====================================================================
By default, OpenGL is not accelerated when using multiple monitors
with the Jeronimo 2000 32MB and 64MB models.
By enabling OpenGL (HydraThread) acceleration from the HydraVision
Performance Options dialog box, OpenGL can be hardware-accelerated
across multiple monitors. However, if OpenGL programs appear to be
drawing incorrectly, try disabling OpenGL acceleration.

With the Jeronimo 2000 16MB model, OpenGL is hardware accelerated at
16bpp up to 1024x768 resolution, and at 32bpp up to 800x600
resolution.

8) HydraVision Desktop Manager Tips and Notes
=====================================================================
a)	Certain applications use windows instead of dialog boxes to
communicate with the user (an example is MicroStation 95
which uses windows for file open, save, etc.). In this case,
the Desktop Manager will not relocate the window since only
	dialog boxes are relocated.

b)	Single Monitor Windows is a very complex control that
essentially attempts to thwart an application's control over
it's own window. Some applications will not allow this
control initially and will start split across monitors.
Clicking the application's title bar will cause it to be
relocated to a single monitor. In the case of playing an AVI
in exclusive mode with Single Monitor Windows enabled, only
half of the displayed video will appear. To avoid this
problem, disable Single Monitor Windows or view the AVI in
	windowed mode.

c)	In some cases, desktop management of certain application
windows or dialog boxes causes problems. If the application
expects to see its dialog box or window on a particular area
of the screen and the window is not there, errors can occur
ranging from mild to severe. HydraVision purposely does not
control certain dialog boxes known to have this problem. If,
however, you experience a problem running an application when
the HydraVision Desktop Manager is loaded, please try
unloading HydraVision and running the application again. If
the cause of the problem was HydraVision, please let Appian
	know.

d)	Some applications use child windows for dialog boxes. These
child windows are not relocated by the Desktop Manager
because 1) they are bound inside their parent window and 2)
HydraVision by definition does not relocate windows. Some
	applications which do this include:
Adobe PageMaker 6 - Spell and Find dialogs
Adobe Premiere 5.1 - Import Folder
Corel Draw 6 - all dialogs
Corel Quattro Pro - all dialogs
		Word 7.0 - Spell dialog
Word 2000 - Spell, Grammar, Find, Replace dialogs
Excel 5.0 - Help dialog (actually a window)
Office 97/2000 - Help (actually a window), Assistant
		Microstation95 - all dialogs
PowerPoint 2000 - Insert Clipart, Insert Movie
(from Gallery), Insert Sound (from Gallery) dialogs

e)	The Appian Desktop Manager controls windows and dialog boxes
by examining and modifying system messages which create, move
and destroy dialog boxes and windows. There are hundreds of
ways that programmers can create dialogs. With all of these
variables, the Desktop Manager is not perfect and can either
miss or incorrectly move a dialog box or a window. In either
case, Appian would like to know about it so that we can add
the offending application to our test suite in order to
correct the problem. If you have a Desktop Manager problem,
please email the application's name to support@appian.com.

9) HydraVision Control Panel Issues
=====================================================================
a)	On the Appian Multi-Monitor tab, a checkbox is available to
enable individual monitor refresh rates. When this option is
selected, the refresh rate displayed on the Windows Settings
tab may not be accurate. This is because Windows assumes it
is only addressing a single monitor and cannot account for
two or more independent refresh rate settings.

b)	A similar problem can occur with reported desktop resolution.
Anomalies between the resolution reported by the Settings tab
and the resolution reported by the HydraVision Extended
Display Settings tab can occur running in either single
monitor mode or multi-monitor mode. This is because Windows
assumes it is only addressing a single monitor at a single
resolution and cannot account for independent resolution
	settings.

c)	If the Control Panel is open when a hot key is activated that
changes desktop settings, the Control Panel will not reflect
the changes until it is closed and re-opened.

d)	If you select large fonts while running with a 640x480
display, the display control panel will be clipped when it is
opened. Please select small fonts on the Settings tab when
running 640x480 display resolutions if Windows has not
automatically selected small fonts for you.

10) Remote Access Software (NetMeeting, pcAnywhere)
=====================================================================
When using some applications, it is important to adjust the
resolution on the Windows Settings tab to accurately reflect the size
of the multiple monitor desktop. This will ensure that applications
such as Microsoft NetMeeting are fully functional and operate
properly in the multi-monitor environment. For example, if the
Settings tab is reporting a resolution of 800x600 with two monitors
enabled, the sharing function in NetMeeting will not work. However,
changing the resolution on the Settings tab to report the actual size
of the desktop (in this case 1600x600) enables proper operation of
NetMeeting sharing.

Once NetMeeting has sharing enabled, you can disable monitors but you
cannot enable monitors without shutting off NetMeeting sharing. To
shut off NetMeeting sharing, go to your Windows NT control panel and
select Devices. Find the MNMDD device and select the StartUp button.
Select the disable option and click OK. Reboot. NetMeeting sharing
will now be shut off and you can enable monitors at will. To turn
sharing back on again, use the NetMeeting menu selection.

Some applications which "hook" the display driver (such as
pcAnywhere) can have problems when used with multi-monitor display
systems. pcAnywhere 8.0 has a confirmed problem with the Jeronimo
2000 card and a patch is available from Symantec for pcAnywhere v8.02.
