AccView/Station Installation and User Guide
I. Overview
AccView/Station is a tool for PC and LAN adapter management. It is
a Windows application that runs in Microsoft Windows 3.1 and later
versions. It can show configuration of local PC hardware and network
adapters. AccView/Station manages network adapters through network
device drivers. Currently Packet Driver and Open Data Link interface
drivers are supported. It can show the configuration and statistic tables
in these adapter and create reports when necessary. It incorporates
report text editors so that you can create reports from the device
information easily.
AccView/Station consists of a single execuatable file AVST.EXE.
Copy this file to your disk and use the "New" command in the Windows
program manager to add it as one of the program manager windows.
To manage LAN adapters, you must load the LAN drivers first. Currently
AccView/Station supports Packet Driver and ODI drivers.
II. Windows of AccView/Station
There are several kinds of Windows in an AccView station.
1. The Control Panel
The Control Panel is the control center of AccView/Station. It lists
network drivers AccView/Station found in the Network Drivers list box.
Packet drivers are named with their interrupt vector and their driver name.
For example: "Packet Driver at 60H: Accton EN2212 Packet Driver".
ODI drivers are named by their driver name and frame type. If you load more
than one frame type for a ODI driver, they will appear multiple times in
the list of drivers, with different protocol frame types.
Below the list box are three buttons named "PC Configuration",
"Configuration" and "Statistics". They are used to invoke almost all other
windows. Pushing "PC Configuration" invokes the PC Configuration window.
Other buttons require a selection of drivers. If no drivers are
available, the two buttons have no effect. Depending on what driver
is selected in the list box, the "Configuration" and "Statistic"
buttons invokes LAN driver configuration and statistics windows respectively.
The Control window can not be closed when AccView/Station is active.
It can be minimized if necessary.
2. PC Configuration
The PC Configuration windows shows the CPU type, memory size, I/O ports,
DOS version and Windows version. It also shows disk drives currently
online, including removable disks (including floppy disk drives), fixed
disks, and network disks. Total size and remaining spaces of these
devices are also shown.
The Update button can be used to refresh the disk drive display.
3. Packet Driver Configuration
It shows various information acquired from the Packet Driver interface.
The information includes Names, Class, Type of the driver, node address,
functionality, current receive mode, and the multicast address list.
4. Packet Driver Statistics
It shows the standard packet driver statistic table. Reported items include
number of transmitted and received frames, bytes and errors.
5. ODI Configuration
It shows the MLID configuration table. Consult the Novell documentation for
a better understanding of the contents.
6. ODI Statistcs
It shows the MLID statistic table from the interface. If multiple logical
boards exist that share the same physical interface, all statistics share
the same numbers.
7. Report Window
Report window is the only kind of window that can be opened as many as
desired. A report window is a basic text editor. Most of the commands
on the main menu applies only to report windows, including File New,
Open, Save, Save As, and Print; Edit Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete, Find,
Find Next, Replace, and Select All. The report window is a standard
Windows text control box, therefore it cannot handle large files.
The maximum size accepted is about 32K. Report Windows are the
target of the "Report" command that can be issued by other
windows.
III. Menu and Tool bar
Most File and Edit commands are already explained. The Edit Report
command will be explained in the next section. The View Toolbar
is used to disable and enable the Tool bar. The View Status
bar does the same on the Status bar. The Window menu is used
to arrange windows and select the desired window directly.
The Tool Bar provids a shortcut for entering commands.
There are a total of 9 Tool Buttons, which are
grouped in three groups. They provide a faster way to execute the
these commands:
File New, File Open, File Save
Edit Report, Edit Cut, Edit Copy, Edit Paste
File Print, Help About.
IV. Reporting
All information in configuration and statistic display windows can be
appended to one of the report windows. Select Edit Append command, or press
the graphic "append" button on the Tool bar when PC Configuration, Driver
Configuration or Driver Statistic window are selected. A list of report
windows currenly active will be presented for selection.
If no report window is presented, one will be opened automatically.
You can press OK to use the currenly selected report window, or New
to create a new window, or cancel to abandon the reporting. The information
will be appended to the selected report window.
Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
