 A. Installation of DOS remote IPL on the server

   1. Start OS/2.

   2. Type "NET STOP SVR <ENTER>" at OS/2 command prompt
      if the SERVER services are already enabled.

   3. Click the "IBM LAN Services" icon from the desktop.

   4. Click the "OS/2 LAN Services Installation/Configuration" icon.

   5. Click OK button in the IBM logo window.

   6. Click Tailored button in the Easy or Tailored
      Installation/Configuration window.

   7. Select "Install or configure this workstation" in the Installation
      Tasks window, and then click OK button.

   8. If the Installation Location window is displayed, verify that the
      correct drive is displayed in the Drive field,
      and then click OK button.

   9. Select "Domain controller" in the Server Type window,
      and then click OK button.

   10.Click No button in the "Current MPTS Version Installed window.
      (ie; if you have the current version of MPTS on your workstation,
	   you do not have to re-install this version.)

   11.There displays a network adapter which is autodetected by the system,
      use the mouse to deselect it, and then click OK button.
		       --------
   12.In the LAPS Configuration window,
      ==> select the network adapter in the Network Adapters field
	  (such as Accton EtherCombo/Pair/Coax-16 Ethernet Adapter),
	  and then click Add button.
      ==> select the protocol in the Protocol field
	  (such as IBM IEEE 802.2, IBM OS/2 NETBIOS),
	  and then click Add button.
      ==> make sure the above network adapter and protocol appears in the
	  Current Configuration field, and then click OK button.

   13.Select "Install and remove a component" in the Install and
      Configuration window, and then click OK button.
      ==> select "DOS Remote IPL Service" in the Install and Remote window,
	  click Install button, and then click OK button.

   14.Select "Configure a component" in the Install and Configuration
      window, and then click OK button.
      ==> select "DOS Remote IPL Service", and then click Configure...
	  button in the Configuration window.
	  ==> select the kind and version of DOS
	      (such as MS_DOS 6.0 or 6.2), click COPY button,
	      and then click OK button.
	  ==> specify the number of MS DOS diskettes in the
	      Number of MS DOS Diskette window and then
	      click OK button.
	  ==> specify the drive on which to install the remote IPL
	      subdirectory (\IBMLAN\RPL), and then click OK button.
	  ==> specify the drive on which to install the remote IPL
	      user subdirectory (\IBMLAN\RPLUSER), and then click
	      OK button.
      ==> click OK button to close the Configuration window.

   15.Select "Apply the Changes" in the Install and Configuration window,
      and then click OK button.
      ==> Insert the diskettes as the instructions displayed in the Copy
	  Diskette window, click OK button to begin copy process.

   16.Click OK button to backup some configuration files prior to their
      modification (such as CONFIG.SYS).

   17.Restart your computer.


 B. Setting up DOS Remote IPL on the server

   1. Start OS/2.

   2. At OS/2 command prompt, type "NET START SERVER" to start the
      REQUESTER and SERVER services.

   3. Log on with an administration ID.
      ==> click the "IBM LAN Services" icon from the desktop.
      ==> click "LAN Server Administration" icon.
      ==> type administrator's ID and password, click OK button to
	  log on to the server, and there displays three icons
	  (Local Workstation ****, DOMAIN, Shadowed Servers)
      ==> close all the windows to return to the desktop.

   4. Type "NET STOP REMOTEBOOT <ENTER>" to stop the Remote IPL service
      if it is started.

   5. Type "GETRPL" at OS/2 command prompt to run GETRPL program. This
      utility migrates DOS remote IPL requester profiles from previous
      releases and sets up the access control profiles.

   6. Edit the file "\IBMLAN\DOSLAN\NET\UMB_CFG.SYS".
	DEVICE=A:\EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=D000-D3FF
				     ---------
				     This is the Boot ROM address of
				     your client LAN adapter.
      Note: Use parameter X to prevent EMM386 from using this address.

   7. Please update the file "\IBMLAN\DOSLAN\NET\NET.EXE".
      File size is 307,825 bytes, and date is 11/25/94.

   8. Click the "IBM LAN Services" icon from the desktop.
      ==> click the "LAN Server Administration" icon.
	  ==> click the "Local workstation ****" icon.
	      ==> click the "DOS Image Definitions" icon.
		  ==> highlight the "STD3HUMB" icon.
		  ==> pull down the "Selected" menu, and then
		      select the item "Make Image".
		  ==> type the "Target server" name in the Make Image to Server
		      window, and then click OK button.
		  ==> close the window.
	      ==> click the "Remote IPL Requesters" icon.
		  ==> select the "Remote IPL Requester Template" icon,
		      and while holding down right mouse button,
		      drag the icon to an open area in the window (there
		      displays the Remote IPL Requester - Create window).
		      ==> make sure the "Enable DOS requester" is selected
			  in the status field.
			  type "RBOOT" in the MACHINE ID field,
			  type your client LAN adapter address in the Network
			  adapter address field (such as 0000E813B30A).
		      ==> click the "Parameters" button located in the right
			  of the window.
			  select "R_Det_NDIS" in the Server record identifier
			  field.
			  select "STD3HUMB" in the Image ID field.
		      ==> click Create button located in the bottom of the
			  window.

   9. Close all the windows to return to the desktop.

   10.Edit the file "\IBMLAN\RPL\DOSNDET.CNF".
      ==> modify the line "DRV DOS\MACETH.DOS~~~"
		     into "DRV DOS\ETHNE.DOS~~~".
				   ---------
				 This is the driver for your client network
				 adapter, such as "ETHNE.DOS" for Accton's
				 166x/165x adapter.

   11.Edit the file "\IBMLAN\RPL\DOS\ETHERNET\PROTOCOL.INI".
      ==> modify the following statements according to the setup of
	  your client network adapter.
	    [MACETH_MOD]
	       DriverName = MACTH$   ETHNE$ (LAN driver on the client)
	       IRQ = 3		     IRQ on the client
	       RAMADDRESS = 0XC800   0XD000 (BOOT ROM address on the client)
	       IOBASE = 0X200	     I/O address on the client

   12.Copy the driver for your client network adapter into the
      subdirectory "\IBMLAN\RPL\DOS".
      For example: COPY A:\NDIS\ETHNE.DOS  C:\IBMLAN\RPL\DOS <ENTER>

   13.Edit the file "\IBMLAN\RPL\RPL.MAP".
      ==> modify the first twelve characters in the bottom line to twelve
	  question marks.
	    000012345678 RBOOT ~STD3HUMB TSLS4 DOMAIN~~~,,,
	    ???????????? RBOOT ~STD3HUMB TSLS4 DOMAIN~~~,,,
	    ------------

   14.Type "NET START RIPL <ENTER>" at OS/2 command prompt.


 C. Setting up on the client

   1. Insert RPL BOOT ROM on your client network adapter.

   2. Use the LAN's adapter setup program to enable BOOT ROM function.
      (such as ACCTON's 1step program)

   3. Format a blank diskette with the parameter "/s".

   4. Start your client workstation with the above DOS system diskette.
      (SW7125:Please do not install any hard disk on the workstation .
       SW7145:don't care ).

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
