Do not interrupt the flash update. !!!!! ===================================================== ** This file contains instructions for updating the firmware of the 1456C PC Card modems. This is an dual mode firmware update that supports V.90 and K56flex. ** This firmware supports the following PROLINK products: 1456C and T36CUA. The product indentification can be found in the the upper section on the back of the card. README.TXT CONTENTS =================== 1) Overview 2) Preparing for Upgrade 3) Determing Model of Modem 4) Performing The Firmware Update 5) Installing new INF drivers (Windows 95/NT Only) 1) Overview ======== This archive, PRO521CE.EXE, contains the following files for updating the modem firmware. - FLASH.EXE (Firmware loader) - P521CE.HEX (Firmware file) - FLASHLDR.HEX (Loader file, hidden) - MDMPL.INF (Windows 95/NT INF file) - README.TXT (This readme.txt) 2) Preparing for Upgrade ===================== 1. Plug your laptop into the wall outlet have constant power to the computer. If the power dies during the flash process, it can adversely affect your modem. 2. Create a new folder or directory on your C: drive called V90. 3. Copy PRO521CE.EXE there and then run or double-click it. It will extract into the files listed in Section 1. 4. This flash update needs to be performed in Windows 95 or Windows 3.X. This will not operate on Windows NT systems or in DOS. 3) Determing Model of Modem ======================== 1. Issue ATI3 to the modem. This can be accomplished via: a. Windows 95 modem Diagnostics (Start/Settings/Control Panel/ Modems/Diagnostic tab) b. Windows 95 HyperTerminal (Programs/Accessories/HyperTerminal/ Hypertrm.exe) c. Windows 3.x Terminal (Accessories/Terminal) d. Any terminal program, i.e. Cheyenne Bitware, and ProComm Plus 2. If ATI3 results with AEIGFM560LKNF1 or AEIGFM560LKNF1%M, write this response down for future reference. Your modem model is eligible for this upgrade. 3. If ATI3 is different from AEIGFM560LKNF1 or AEIGFM560LKNF1%M, your modem is not eligible for this V.90 upgrade. 4) Performing The Firmware Update ============================== 1. Go to C:\V90 and run FLASH.EXE a. Windows 95 users: Use Explorer b. Windows 3.x users: Use File Manager 2. When prompted to "Choose File To Download" select P0521LK.HEX and click OK. ============================== Do not select any other files. ============================== 3. You will probably see a message stating "Found Modem on ComX. RRFL is not Compatible." A dialog box will open stating "Do you wish to use?" select YES to continue. 4. A box stating "Found Modem on ComX. Initializing Please Wait" will appear and will begin flashing while displaying "Programming the Flash". 5. After a successful flash, restart the computer. 5) Installing new INF drivers (Windows 95/NT Only) =============================================== 1. Windows 95 users. After reboot, Windows 95 will detect the modem as a new device. a. Windows 95 users: select "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer" and click Ok. Type in C:\V90 and then click Ok. b. Windows 95 OSR2 users: Click next. When prompted for a driver type in C:\V90 and then Finish. 2. Windows NT 4.0 users: Open Control Panel, the Modems. Click Add. Let it search for a modem. When it finds the modem as Standard, click on Change and then on Have Disk. When prompted type C:\V90 and click Ok. Choose the PROLINK 1456C V90 PCMCIA Modem and click Ok. 3. Open Control Panel/PC Card (PCMCIA). After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
