V.90 Standard Windows 95 Flash upgrade utility for the Sportster MessagePlus modem
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Congratulations on having a U.S. Robotics brand V.90 flash upgradeable modem !
Be sure to have your modem attached to a Communication (COM) Port on
your computer via a serial cable, and switched on.

Settings
--------
1) If you have changed your settings from the default, record the new
   settings displayed in the ATI5 screen.
2) Disconnect the modem from the PSTN telephone network.
3) Flash the modem using the MPW95.EXE file - Flash utility usage
   detailed below.
4) Power cycle the modem (i.e. turn the modem off for ~5 secs, and
   then turn it back on)
5) From a terminal (or terminal program) enter
   AT&F1&W <return>

3a) From your Windows 95 system menu, select START, then RUN.
3b) Click on BROWSE and go to the directory where the MPW95.EXE
    has been extracted.
3c) Select MPW95.EXE and click on OPEN, then click OK to run.
    The V.90 upgrade utility will now load into your computers memory.
3d) The V.90 upgrade utility automatically scans your COM Ports to find
    your flash upgradeable modem.
    You will see 'U.S. Robotics modem found' appear in one of the communication 
    port fields on your screen. Ensure that this is the correct modem, then 
    click on FLASH! to download V.90 onto your modem.

Windows 95 support

To ensure the smooth functioning of your new V.90 modem, it is advisable
to also install the Windows 95 .inf file supplied.

6) Restart your PC, boot into Windows 95. You should be prompted for
   a new V.90 modem driver
7) Click on the "Select from a list of alternate drivers" option
8) Click on the "Have Disk..." button, and select BROWSE. Go to the
   directory where you have expanded the V.90 upgrade files.
9) Select the MDM3CMVO.INF file and click on OK. Click OK again to
   proceed. Make sure your 56kbps modem is highlighted, for example
   U.S. Robotics 56K Message, and then select the NEXT button.

Those customers using Unimodem V will get prompted for a driver for a
"Wave Device for Voice Modem". Just follow the above instructions again
but this time selecting "U.S. Robotics brand Serial Wave
Device". There should also be a file called  3COMSERW.INF in the
directory where your V.90 files were expanded.

You may now use your new V.90 modem.  Be sure to set up your V.90 supported
software applications for your newly installed V.90 modem .inf file,
otherwise you may experience connection problems or incorrect system
messages.

All U.S. Robotics brand UK modems are BABT approved and CE Marked, and are
supplied with a five year warranty and free lifetime technical support.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
