FAQ (Windows 95/98) HOW TO CLEAR OUT AN OUT-OF-DATE OR CORRUPT MODEM CONFIGURATION FILE (.INF): 1) With the modem inserted into the PCMCIA socket, go to Control Panel and double-click the "Modem" icon. Highlight any and all modem listings not valid and click the "remove" button below. (This includes ALL Simple Technology modem listings). 2) From Control Panel, double-click the "system" icon and then click on the "Device Manager" tab above. In the hardware list, find the modem category and open it up (clicking once). High- light and remove any and all modem listings not valid or relating to Simple Technology modems by clicking the "remove" button. Also, check the "Other Devices" category for similar listings and remove them as well. 3) Now go to and open the "My Computer" icon on the desktop screen. Double-click the "Drive C:" icon. Locate the "Windows" folder icon and double-click it to open. Locate the "inf" folder icon and double-click it to open. If you cannot find this folder, go to the top menu bar and select view. Go down to "options" or "view options" and select it. In the new dialog box, select the "View" tab above and check mark "Show all files". Click on "OK". The "inf" folder should now be visible. If you have another folder inside the "inf" folder called "other", follow step A. If there are only files and no "other" folder, follow step B. A) Inside the "other" folder, delete any recognized Simple Technology files (i.e. mdmsmpl.inf, serwave.inf, or any duplicates of these). B) Locate the file oem0.inf and double-click it to read. If this file references a Simple Technology modem, close it and delete it. Do the same for oem1.inf, oem2.inf, etc. and any duplicates that exist among the oemX.inf files. In the "inf" folder or directory, delete the files drvdata.bin and drvidx.bin. The system has now been cleared of all Simple Technology con- figuration files and is ready for reinstallation. Be certain to have the latest configuration files on diskette available at http://www.simpletech.com/helpdesk/main_tec.htm. If you are ready, eject and reinsert the modem to start the installation dialog and request for the new files.Download Driver Pack
