I. System Requirements
===========================
The installation program requires the following basic system requirements:
- 386 or later IBM PC compatible
- DOS version 5.0 or later
- Harddisk
- VGA monitor
- File MSCDEX.EXE (DOS program from DOS version 6.0 or later)
- mouse (recommended)

II. Files on Installation Diskette
======================================
The installation diskette consists of the following files:
1. INSTALL.EXE
- Installation program to install the CD-ROM driver software.
2. UNINST.EXE
- Un-installation program to remove the CD-ROM driver software.
3. README.TXT
- this file
4. ADDCDR.EXE
- CD-ROM device driver program for the EigerMedia PC CARD.
5. CDROM.EXE
- Point Enabler to open an I/O window for the CD-ROM
drive. This will allow the Portable to operate without the need for
Card and Socket Services. However, Hot-swapping the card will not be
allowed, nor can you use another PC Card.
6. CDROM.CLB
- Librarian file for CARDID.EXE to install client driver for the
Portable CD-ROM.
7. CARDMGR.EXE
- PHOENIX Card Manager client driver.
8. TALKMGR.EXE
- Databook CARDTALK Card Manager client driver.
- Not support Plug-and-play, thus, it must insert the PCMCIA card before
run this program. If reinsert the PCMCIA card, this program must be
run again to enable the socket.
9. DPTIME.EXE
- Show time on CD-ROM drive
- Usage : DPTIME DriveNumber
e.g. Assume the CD-ROM Drive is drive letter D:.

IV. Procedure to install the Portable CD-ROM device driver on command line
==========================================================================
To install the Portable CD-ROM device driver on the command line instead of
config.sys, execute the following procedures on command line:
C:\>C:\CARDSOFT\CDROM.EXE <--- See Note 1
C:\>C:\DEV\ADDCDR.EXE /D:CDROM001 /P:360 /V
C:\>C:\DOS\MSCDEX.EXE /D:CDROM001 /M:20 /V
If the installation is completed, the drive letter will display as below
Drive D: = Driver CDROM001 unit 0
Note 1 : If the Portable CD-ROM PC Card is inserted in a slot, Card and
Socket Services or the point-enabler must enabled before
you can use the CD-ROM.
If Card and Socket Services are not installed on your system,
enable the Portable CD-ROM PC Card by using point-enabler
(CDROM.EXE). IMPORTANT : The Point-enabler does not work on
every possible system, therefore is you do have a problem with the
point-enabler then you must install Card and Socket Services on
your machine in order to use the Portable CD-ROM.

V. Uninstall the Portable CD-ROM driver program
==================================================
To uninstall the Portable CD-ROM drive program from your system, run the
program UNINST.EXE at the DOS prompt
A:\>UNINST
There are two options :
1. Remove ALL Portable CD-ROM driver files
This option will remove all the programs on the system that
were installed and will remove the command lines that were added to the
files config.sys, autoexec.bat and CARDID.INI (if it existed).
2. Modify CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT ONLY
This option will remove the command lines that were added to the files
config.sys, autoexec.bat and CARDID.INI (if existed).
After selecting the one of the options, the program will ask for
confirmation. Pressing the button "CONTINUE" will start the uninstall
process.
While the program is uninstalling, the file CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT and
CARDID.INI (if it existed) will backup to CONFIG.XXX, AUTOEXEC.XXX and
CARDID.XXX. (XXX means from 001 to 999)

The Card and Socket services software may exclude the port address 0360h to
0363h.

NOTE 1 : This line excludes the I/O port address 360h to 36Fh. However;
the CD-ROM drive is using I/O port address 360h to 363h. This will
prevent the Portable CD-ROM software from detecting the CD-ROM drive.
The installation program of the Portable CD-ROM will ask the you to
confirm modification of the file CSALLOC.INI. After the user confirms
the modification by selecting the "YES" button, file CSALLOC.INI will
be modified as follows

NOTE 2 : Adds the line to include the I/O port address 360h to 363h.
Since the program will remark out the line that exclude the I/O port or
MEMORY address, this may cause some problems on the notebook. If any
problems do occur on the notebook, please restore the old CSALLOC.INI
(backup by the installation program to CSALLOC.xxx, where xxx is 000 to
999).
NOTE : The un-installation program cannot restore the CSALLOC.INI. Thus,
please restore the CSALLOC.INI from the backup file CSALLOC.XXX.
(XXX means from 001 to 999) manually.

VII. Installation notes for PHOENIX Card Manager Plus
========================================================
After installing PHOENIX Card Manager Plus, reboot the PC. Install the
Portable CD-ROM program by running the installation program.
A:\>INSTALL
The installation program will detect the PHOENIX Card Manager and
install the CD-ROM Card Manager Program, CARDMGR.EXE.
Important : Don't use any card library that will capture a socket.
e.g. PCMATA.SYS

VIII. Installation notes for SystemSoft CardSoft ver 3.1
==========================================================
To install SystemSoft CardSoft ver 3.1, insert the "SYSTEMSOFT" disk into
the floppy drive and run "INSTALL.EXE".
A:\>INSTALL
The install program will ask you for the number of socket. Select 2 if the
notebook contain 2 PCMCIA slots. Press <ENTER> to confirm.
The install program will ask for destination directory, press <ENTER> for
using the default directory. Press <ENTER> again for confirmation.
The install program will copy the files to your harddisk.
When the install program asks for "loading drivers into CONFIG.SYS",select
"UPDATE CONFIG.SYS" option if config.sys already exists.
The install program will update the CONFIG.SYS and CARDID.INI.
Select "ADD Parameter" option when the install program asks for "MEMORY
MANAGERS".
When the installation is completed, press <ESC> to quit the program or
select "DOS" option.
After installation, please check the file "CONFIG.SYS" on your root
directory.

NOTE : 1. Some notebooks require excluding the address range
from D000-D0FF. Other notebooks require excluding the
address range from D000-DFFF. If the notebook hangs up while
booting, change the exclusion range and try again.
2. if 2 PCMCIA slot exist, add "/SKT=2" to the end of the command
line.
i.e. DEVICE=C:\CARDSOFT\SSVADEM.EXE /SKT=2
3. change the command line to
"DEVICE=C:\CARDSOFT\CS.EXE /beeptypes cf"
4. if this command line exists, and you do not have a PCMCIA
Hard drive, then you can remark out this command line by
inserting "rem" at the beginning of the line.

5. if this command line exists, and you do not have a PCMCIA
Flash memory card installed, then you can remark out this command
line by inserting "rem" at the beginning of the line.

After modifying the file "CONFIG.SYS", reboot the computer and install the
Portable CD-ROM software.

IX. Installation notes for Databook CardTalk
================================================
After installing the Databook CARDTALK Card Manager, reboot the PC. Install
the Portable CD-ROM software by running the installation program.
A:\>INSTALL
The installation program will detect the CARDTALK Card Manager and
install the Portable CD-ROM Card Manager Program, TALKMGR.EXE.
Thus, the file "CONFIG.SYS" will look like

Note : Some of the drive letters are assigned by CARDTALK. Thus, the
CD-ROM drive letter may not be the letter just after the
last hard disk in your system.
For Example:
Harddisk drive letter = C:
CARDTALK assigned drive letter = D: and E:
Portable CD-ROM drive letter = F:
The drive number of the Portable CD-ROM can be found by
the following line when the MSCDEX.EXE is run from your Autoexec.bat
program.
Drive F: = Driver CDROM001 unit 0
This indicate the Portable CD-ROM drive is drive letter F:.
If an error, "Not enough drive letters" occurs, modify the command
line on the file CONFIG.SYS
LASTDRIVE=E
to a higher drive letter, e.g. LASTDRIVE=G.

X. Installation notice for Windows
===============================
To install the Portable CD-ROM under Windows, open a "DOS prompt" which
is in the group "MAIN" on the Windows. Run the installation program
by typing
"A:\>INSTALL"
For installation procedures, please refer to the the section SOFTWARE
INSTALLATION in the Operating Instruction Manual.
Note : Reboot the PC after installing under windows.

SystemSoft Card and Socket Services have been detected, but the

Installation has been completed. The original file config.sys and

Select the button "REBOOT" to reboot the PC immediately.
Select the button "EXIT TO DOS" to exit to DOS. To activate the
CD-ROM function, reboot the PC.
If under Windows exit the install program, exit Windows then reboot
your system.

NOTE: If the Portable CD-ROM drive is not properly installed or power
is not supplied to the drive, this will cause the CD-ROM drive to go
undetected. Thus, make sure the CD-ROM drive is properly installed
and powered on. If this message appears again when you try to install
again,then install Card and Socket services and retry the installation.

Q. How can I install the CD-ROM driver on my notebook if I have only
one PCMCIA slot that is used by floppy disk driver?
A. Copy the installation program into an empty directory of your harddisk.
Remove the PC CARD for the floppy driver. Then install the CD-ROM driver
and PC CARD properly. Change the directory to the copied installation
program and run the INSTALL.EXE.
Q. The installation program hangs when detecting the I/O port address?
A. Some cards, such as network cards, may use the I/O port. Thus, when
detecting I/O port address, a conflict and may cause the system to halt.
Remove the card or change your Network Cards base I/O Address.
Q. The system cannot recognize the CD-ROM drive when the PC boots?
A. The following possible causes may exist :
- Possible issue :
Another device uses the same I/O port address of CD-ROM
Solution :
Change the I/O port address of the other device
or remove the device
- Possible issue :
The CD-ROM drive is not properly installed.
a. CD-ROM drive cable is not installed properly.
b. CD-ROM drive is powered off.
c. Portable CD-ROM PC Card is inserted in another PCMCIA slot.
Solution :
a. Make sure Portable CD-ROM drive cable is installed properly.
b. Make sure Portable CD-ROM drive is on while booting.
c. Insert the Portable CD-ROM PC Card on original slot
or re-install the program.
- Possible issue :
The power supply does not have enough energy to drive the CD-ROM.
a. The PC cannot supply enough power to CD-ROM drive.
b. The batteries are low.
c. The AC adaptor does not have enough current supply.
Solution :
a. Use battery or an AC adaptor.
b. Replace batties.
c. Insure the AC adaptor can supply current of 800mA or above.
Insure the AC adaptor is 6V.
- Possible issue :
In-correct memory exclusion for EMM386.EXE
Solution :
Some notebooks require excluding the address range
from D000-D0FF. Other notebooks require excluding the
address range from D000-DFFF. If the notebook hangs up while
booting, change the exclusion range and try again.
Q. Which drive letter is the CD-ROM drive?
A. While running the program MSCDEX.EXE, the following message will
be displayed
Drive D: = Driver CDROM001 unit 0
This indicates the CD-ROM drive is on drive letter D:.
Q. Unable to unload the device driver?
A. The following may be the possible causes :
The Portable CD-ROM device driver is installed in config.sys.
The Portable CD-ROM device driver is installed in high memory while the
file MSCDEX.EXE is installed in conventional memory.
Q. Cannot install the MSCDEX.EXE again on command line?
A. A MSCDEX.EXE is already installed or no device drive has been installed
before.
Q. Why do I get a CD-ROM read data error?
A. Insure that the CD-ROM disc is not an audio disc.
Q. Why does the message 'Not enough Drive letters' occur when MSCDEX.EXE
is executed?
A. Modify the command line in the file CONFIG.SYS
LASTDRIVE=E
to a higher drive letter, e.g. LASTDRIVE=P
Note : If a network is installed, the network may fail to install.

Q. Why can't the notebook detect a removeable harddisk after
the Portable CD-ROM PCMCIA card is inserted?
A. For some notebooks, such as HP Omnibook, the harddisk is a plug-and-play
type. The notebook recognizes the Portable CD-ROM PC Card card as a
harddisk. To solve this problem, boot the notebook while the CD-ROM
PC Card is not inserted in a slot. After booting up the notebook, insert
the Portable CD-ROM PC Card and run the device driver at the DOS prompt
instead of CONFIG.SYS.
