1. WINDOWS 95 SUPPORT

1.1 Driver Installation

To install the Alps GlidePoint® Touchpad drivers for
     Windows 95:

     - From the Start menu, select "Settings", "Control
Panel", then double click "Mouse" to open the Mouse
       Properties window.

     - In the Mouse Properties window, Click the "General"
tab, then click the "Change" button.

     - Click "Have Disk" and insert the driver disk in your
floppy drive. Confirm or correct the file path
       (normally "a:\"), then click "OK".

     - Click "Alps GlidePoint® Touchpad", then "OK" to copy
the driver files to your system.

     - After the files are copied, Windows 95 should build a
driver information database then return to the Mouse
Properties window and show the new device name.
       Click "Close".

     - The "System Settings Change" dialog will offer to
restart your computer so the new settings can take
       effect. Select "Yes".

NOTE: Early versions of Windows 95 might not reboot
your computer properly upon completion of the Alps
GlidePoint® Touchpad install as described above (this
is a Windows 95 bug). If the automatic reboot does not
occur, please make sure you shutdown and restart your
computer manually so the new settings can take effect.

1.2 Using the Alps GlidePoint® Touchpad Control Panel

To change your Alps GlidePoint® Touchpad settings in
     Windows 95:

     - From the Start menu, select "Settings", "Control
Panel", then "Mouse" to open the Mouse Properties
       window.

     - Click the "General" tab, then click the "Options"
button to bring up the Alps GlidePoint® Touchpad
       Control Panel.

     - The Alps GlidePoint® Touchpad controls are grouped
into five categories (Pointer, Motion, Orientation,
Shortcuts and Tapping). Some of these options also
appear on the standard Mouse Properties tabs. However,
they are best controlled through the Alps GlidePoint®
Touchpad pages. Online Help is provided for all
       topics.

     - When you are satisfied with your settings, click OK
to close the Alps GlidePoint® Touchpad Control Panel,
then OK to close Mouse Properties.

1.3 Control Panel Restrictions

Most of the Alps GlidePoint® Touchpad Control Panel
features operate identically in Windows 3.1 and Windows
     95, except for the following:

     - Pointer Growth: These controls are disabled under
Windows 95, where Pointer Growth is not currently
       supported.

1.4 Restoring Your Installation

The Alps GlidePoint® Touchpad drivers are compatible
with most standard mice and similar pointing devices.
However, if you do change drivers to use another
device, you can restore the Alps GlidePoint® Touchpad
installation (including your control panel settings) as
     follows:

     - From the Start menu, select "Settings", "Control
Panel", then "Mouse" to open the Mouse Properties
       pages.

     - Click the "General" tab, then click the "Change"
       button.

     - If "Alps GlidePoint® Touchpad" does not appear in the
first list of pointing device models, click "Show All
Devices". In the Manufacturers column, click "Alps."

     - In the Models column, click on "Alps GlidePoint®
Touchpad", then "OK" to change the device name.
       Click "Close".

     - The "System Settings Change" dialog will offer to
restart your computer so the new settings can take
       effect. Select "Yes".

NOTE: Early versions of Windows 95 might not reboot
your computer properly upon completion of the Alps
GlidePoint® Touchpad install as described above (this
is a Windows 95 bug). If the automatic reboot does not
occur, please make sure you shutdown and restart your
computer manually so the new settings can take effect.

1.5 Driver Un-Installation

     - From the Start menu, select "Settings", "Control
Panel", then "Add/Remove Programs" to open the
       Add/Remove Programs Properties pages.

     - Select "Alps GlidePoint® Touchpad" in the list of
       installed components and click "Add/Remove".

     - Click "Continue" when the Un-Install program begins.

     - The "System Settings Change" dialog will offer to
restart your computer so the new settings can take
       effect. Select "Yes".

     - Once your computer is restarted, it will be using
the standard Windows 95 mouse driver. However, you
can change it if you desire, by reading on. If you
       are satisfied, you are done!

     - From the Start menu, select "Settings", "Control
Panel", then "Mouse" to open the Mouse Properties
       pages.

     - Click the "General" tab, then click the "Change"
       button.

     - In the Manufacturers column, click your choice. In
the Models column, click your choice, then "OK" to
change the device name. Click "Close".

     - The "System Settings Change" dialog will offer to
restart your computer so the new settings can take
       effect. Select "Yes".

NOTE: Early versions of Windows 95 might not reboot
your computer properly upon completion of the Alps
GlidePoint® Touchpad install as described above (this
is a Windows 95 bug). If the automatic reboot does not
occur, please make sure you shutdown and restart your

3. DOS SUPPORT

3.1 General

The Windows 95 and Windows 3.1x Setup programs described
above automatically include the DOS driver, AMOUSE.COM.
This driver provides the support needed for all DOS
     applications, either full-screen or windowed.

If Windows is not installed on your machine, use the
INST_DOS.EXE program to install the Alps GlidePoint®
     Touchpad drivers for DOS.

3.2 Windows 3.1x

Some of the Alps GlidePoint® Touchpad settings (such as
sensitivity, acceleration and orientation) are shared
between the DOS and Windows drivers. The easiest way to
set these options is through the Alps GlidePoint®
Touchpad Control Panel in Windows. The DOS driver will
pick up any changes the next time it starts up.

IF YOU PLAN TO SHARE SETTINGS BETWEEN WINDOWS AND DOS,
YOU SHOULD RUN SETUP.EXE FROM WINDOWS!

Other settings (such as the pointer options) may differ
between DOS and Windows, and are stored separately in
the MOUSE.INI file. You can change the DOS settings
directly by editing this file or by adding option
switches to the AMOUSE command line. See the AMOUSE.TXT
     file for details.

3.3 Windows 95

When running a DOS game (or other Windows sensitive DOS
application), you can set up a custom DOS session by
     using DOS property pages.

After installing your DOS program, locate the DOS file
you will execute to start your application (usually a
.EXE or .BAT file). Click your right mouse button on
the file's icon to display it's context menu.

Select 'Create Shortcut' from the context menu. Windows
95 will make a 'Shortcut to XXX' icon (where XXX is the
DOS executable file you selected). Usually, this looks
like the familiar MS-DOS icon in Windows 3.1.

Click your right mouse button on the shortcut's icon to
display the it's context menu. Select 'Properties' to
display the property pages for your new DOS shortcut.

Click on the 'Program' tab then click the 'Advanced...'
button to display the 'Advanced Program Settings' page.

Click the 'MS-DOS mode' check box and then the 'Specify
a new MS-DOS configuration' bullet button to display the
     'Select MS-DOS Configuration Options' page.

From the list of options, make sure the 'Alps GlidePoint®
Touchpad' has a check mark, along with any other support
you may want for your DOS program's environment.

Click 'OK' to return to 'Advanced Program Settings'.
Check your settings for Config.Sys and Autoexec.Bat.
You can optionally add command line switches to the
AMOUSE.COM line in the 'AUTOEXEC.BAT' window (see
AMOUSE.TXT in your Windows\Alps\Gpoint directory for
details on AMOUSE.COM command line switches).

When you are satisfied with your 'Advanced Program
Settings', click 'OK' to return to 'Program' property
sheet. Click 'OK' to close the property pages.
