PostScript Printer Description (PPD) File ========================================= For software that requires PostScript Printer Description files, this diskette includes the file "CAECOGR1.PPD". This file complies with the Version 4.3 PPD-file specification published by Adobe Systems Inc., and contains descriptions of various characteristics of the EcoGrafix printer. A PPD file is required for Adobe PageMaker Version 6.0, Quark XPress Version 3.3, the Adobe/Microsoft PostScript driver and other software packages. To use the EcoGrafix printer with Adobe PageMaker 6.0, you must first install the .PPD file into the sub-directory named "C:\PM6\RSRC\USENGLSH\PPD4" on your hard disk. To install the file, enter the following command at the DOS prompt: e.g. COPY A:\CAECOGR1.PPD C:\PM6\RSRC\USENGLSH\PPD4 where: COPY is the DOS "COPY" command A: is the name of your floppy disk drive CAECOGR1.PPD is the name of the PPD file C: is the name of your hard disk drive \PM6 ... is the name of the PPD directory on your hard disk When you are ready to print from PageMaker 6.0, select the "Print" option from the File menu and select "CalComp EcoGrafix/PS" from the "PPD" list. To use the EcoGrafix printer with Quark XPress 3.3, you must first install the appropriate .PPD file into the "SYSTEM" subdirectory of WINDOWS on your hard disk. (Note: If you have completed the "Windows 95 Installation", see previous page, the PPD has already been installed into the \Windows\System directory and the following is not required.) To install the file, enter the following command at the DOS prompt: e.g. COPY A:\CAECOGR1.PPD C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM where: COPY is the DOS "COPY" command A: is the name of your floppy disk drive CAECOGR1.PPD is the name of the .PPD file C: is the name of your hard disk drive \WINDOWS... is the name of your WINDOWS\SYSTEM sub-directory When you are ready to print from Quark XPress 3.3, select the "Setup" option from the File menu and select the appropriate "EcoGrafix" item. For other software that use PDD's, check their supplied documentation for PDD installation instructions. Sample PostScript File ====================== The DEMOPAGE diskette contains a file named DEMOPAGE.PS that will generate a sample image to verify that the printer and controller are functioning properly: To send the DEMOPAGE.PS file to the printer, enter the following command: SENDPS DEMOPAGE.PS where: SENDPS is the name of the command that sends a PostScript file to the parallel port, (for serial port, see below). DEMOPAGE.PS is the name of the PostScript sample file to be printed Printer Management Utilities ============================ SENDPS.EXE - This executable program sends (copies) a PostScript file to a designated output port. A PostScript "end-of-file" marker is added to the end of the file if one does not exist. To send a file, enter the following command from the DOS prompt: SENDPS file port where: file = the name of the file to be sent to the printer port = the output port: LPT1, LPT2, COM1, CON, etc. (LPT1 is the default if this item is omitted) Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions ====================================== 1.
