Overview

This document contains information about installing the monitor update for the 7004201 - FPD1830 Analog/Digital LCD Monitor to resolve the DVI connection not working properly for Nvidia-based video cards.  This update does not work on computers with ATI video cards.


Identification

Note: This update is for computers that have monitor part number 7004201 (FPD1830) and an Nvidia based-video card only.  Installing this update on other flat panel display LCDs may damage the monitor.

Installation

1.  Download the 7004201.exe file to the Windows XP desktop.

2.  Shut down the computer and ensure that both ANALOG and DVI video cables are connected to the video card and monitor.

3.  Create a Windows XP Startup disk.

 a.  Insert a blank floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.
 b.  From the Start menu, click My Computer.
 c.  In the My Computer window, select the 3 1\2 floppy (A:) drive.
 d.  From the File menu, click Format.
 e.  In the Format 3 1\2 floppy (A:) dialog box, select the Create an MS-DOS start disk check box, and then click Start.
 f.  A dialog box warns that all data on the disk is erased during the format.  Click OK.
 g.  The disk is formatted and startup files copied.
 h.  In the Format Complete dialog box, click OK.
 i.  In the Format 3 1\2 floppy (A:) dialog box, click Close.
 j.  Close the My Computer window.

4.  Extract 7004201.exe to the Windows XP Startup disk.

 a.  On the desktop, locate and double-click the 7004201.exe file. If the file was downloaded to another location, double-click it there.
 b.  Verify that A: is the extraction destination.  Click Unzip.
 c.  After extraction is complete, click OK.

Note: Ensure that both ANALOG and DVI video cables are connected to the video card and monitor.  Leave the Windows XP startup disk in the floppy drive.

5.  From the Start menu, click Shut Down.

6.  In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, select Restart, and then click OK.

7.  The computer restarts to the floppy disk.

8.  At the A:\ prompt, type: Update.bat. Press the ENTER key.

9.  The message Update Successful displays.

10.  Remove the Startup disk from the floppy disk drive, and then turn off the computer using the power button.

11.  Disconnect the blue (analog) video cable from the video card in the computer.

12.  Turn on the computer.  The update is complete.


Removal

There are no removal instructions for this update.


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulty during or after the installation, try the following troubleshooting steps.

1.  Verify that all (analog and DVI) video cables are securely connected on the video card and FPD1830.  

2.  Download the update again and retry the installation process.


Reason for update

This update resolves a problem with monitor part number 7004201 (FPD1830) when the DVI connection does not work properly.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
