REASON FOR UPDATE OR CHANGE TO FILES
------------------------------------
The enclosed BIOS update includes support for Logical Block Addressing (LBA)
when using IDE hard drives above 1024 cylinders.

The enclosed BIOS update also includes help for problems with the Quick
Time for Windows (QTW) video format used in some Broderbund multimedia games
such as Myst. This change should clear up video and audio synchronization
problems.

DESCRIPTION OF FILES AND THEIR FUNCTIONS

fsh20f.exe              flash ultility program
jx30g-12.bin            binary file that contains the BIOS code
                        necessary for the upgrade
read1st.txt             this file
autoexec.bat            runs the flash update automatically

COMPONENT USE LISTING
---------------------
This BIOS upgrade can only be used on the Gateway/Micronics system boards
that have the "G" designator signifying them as "green" motherboards in the
system boot BIOS message. The invoice shipped with your system will have one
the following part numbers listed: JX30G, JX30GIFX, JX30GPS2, JX30GP2W,
JX30GNCW, MBDLOC001AAUS, MBDLOC001ABUS.  This file will not work with part 
number MLB486P24T.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR THESE FILES
-----------------------------------------
1. Make a bootable floppy diskette. Ex.: format a:/s
2. Copy the following files to this diskette.
   a. fsh20f.exe
   b. jx30g-12.bin
   c. autoexec.bat
3. Boot the system with the BIOS upgrade diskette.
4. After rebooting the system, the BIOS should read JX30G-12.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
