Overview

This is the P03 BIOS update for the Hawaii (E-5400) motherboard.

Identification

To identify if this is the correct BIOS update file for your computer, follow these steps.

The BIOS Configuration Manager uses a Windows-like graphical interface that can be navigated with a mouse, instead of the text-based screens found on other motherboards.

1. Press the F1 key during Startup to start the Configuration Manager.

2. Click Enter Setup to go to the first setup screen.

Note: The white lettering on some screens indicates items that are currently selected.

3. Click the System BIOS tab.

4. The BIOS version should read OR840600.86E.xxx.Pxx (where x is variable characters).

If the computer is in Windows:

1. From the Start menu, click Shut Down. In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, select Restart, and then click OK.

2. Press the F1 key during Startup to start the Configuration Manager.

3. Click Enter Setup to go to the first setup screen.

Note: The white lettering on some screens indicates items that are currently selected.

4. Click the System BIOS tab.

5. The BIOS version should read OR840600.86E.xxx.Pxx (where x is variable characters).

Installation

Before updating your BIOS, be sure to read the following.

1. Prepare your computer.

Before updating your computer's BIOS, enter the current BIOS Setup Utility, and then write down each of the current settings, in the event that this information is needed again after the upgrade.

Note: The following instructions may vary depending upon the operating system currently loaded on the computer.

2. Copy the files.

 a. After the BIOS update file has been downloaded and then double-clicked, the files you need are extracted to the c:\cabs\7508216 folder.
 b. On your screen, double-click the My Computer icon.
 c. In the My Computer window, double-click Local Disk (C:).
 d. In the Local Disk (C:) window, double-click the Drivers folder. If you do not see this folder, click View the entire contents of this drive.
 e. Double-click the 7508216 folder.
 f. In the C:\cabs window, from the Edit menu, click Select All.
 g. In the C:\cabs window, from the Edit menu, click Copy.
 h. Close all windows and dialog boxes.
 i. Insert a blank formatted floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.
 j. On your screen, double-click the My Computer icon.
 k. In the My Computer window, double-click 3 1/2 Floppy (A:).
 l. In the A:\ window, from the Edit menu, click Paste.
 m. The files needed to update the BIOS are copied to the floppy disk.

3. Perform the update.

Note: If the 3.5-inch floppy disk drive is not the current setting for the first boot device, enter the BIOS Configuration Manager and set the first boot device to "Auto".

 a. Restart the computer with the disk in drive A.
 b. The BIOS upgrade begins. Because of the small amount of code available in the non-erasable startup block area, there is no video support. You can only monitor this procedure by listening to the on-board speaker or looking at the disk drive's LED.
 c. When finished, after approximately two minutes, the BIOS emits a beep code on the piezoelectric speaker on the workstation board to indicate the completion status. A 3-3-3 beep code indicates a successful BIOS update.
 d. Remove the floppy disk and turn off the power. Your BIOS has now been upgraded.
 e. If you changed the first boot device in step 1, enter Configuration Manager and reset the boot order to the previous setting.
 f. Enter the new BIOS and verify that the settings are the same as those you copied down earlier.

Removal
