Overview

This is the P09 BIOS for the Freeman motherboard.


Identification

To identify if this is the correct BIOS update file for your computer, follow these steps.

If the computer is turned off:

1.  Turn on the computer and press the F1 key several times.  The computer enters the BIOS Setup Utility.

2.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, look for the BIOS version line.  It should read 4F4JZ0XB.xxx.xxxx.Pxx (where x is variable characters).

3.  If this is correct, then this is the correct BIOS update for your computer.

If the computer is in Windows:

1.  From the Start menu, click Shut Down.  In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, select Restart, and then click OK.

2.  After the screen turns black, press F1 several times.  The computer enters the BIOS setup Utility.

3.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, look for the BIOS version line.  It should read 4F4JZ0XB.xxx.xxxx.Pxx (where x is variable characters).

4.  If this is correct, then this is the correct BIOS update for your computer.


Installation

The Installation process consists of the following three sections.

 Preparing your computer
 Copy the files
 Perform the update

Note: It is recommended that you read all installation instructions before beginning the process.

Prepare your computer:

Before updating your computer's BIOS, enter the current BIOS Setup Utility, and then write down each of the current settings, in the event that this information is needed again after the upgrade.

Copy the files:

Note: The following instructions may vary somewhat, dependent upon the operating system currently loaded on the computer.

1.  After the BIOS update file has been downloaded and then double-clicked, the needed files are extracted to the c:\cabs\7507925 folder.

2.  On your screen or from the Start menu, double-click the My Computer icon.

3.  In the My Computer window, double-click Local Disk (C:).

4.  In the Local Disk (C:) window, double-click the Cabs folder.  If you do not see this folder, click View the entire contents of this drive.

5.  In the Cabs window, double-click the 7507925 folder.

6.  In the C:\cabs\7507925 window, click Edit, and then click Select All.

7.  In the C:\cabs\7507925 window, click Edit and then click copy.

8.  Close all windows.

9.  Insert a blank formatted floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.

10.  On your screen or from the Start menu, locate and double-click the My Computer icon.

11.  In the My Computer window, double-click 3 1/2 Floppy (A:)

12.  In the A:\ window, click Edit, and then click Paste.

13.  The files needed to update the BIOS are copied to the floppy disk.

Perform the update:

1.  Restart the computer with the diskette in the A:\ drive.

2.  When the first menu screen appears, to continue, press the Enter key.

3.  On the next screen, to update a flash memory area, press Enter.

4.  On the next screen, to update system BIOS, press Enter.

5.  On the next screen, press the down arrow to highlight file, and then, to update, press Enter.

6.  On the next screen, to continue, press Enter.

7.  When BIOS update is complete, remove disk from the floppy disk driver, and then, to reboot as prompted, press Enter.

8.  Enter the new BIOS and verify settings are the same as those you copied down earlier.


Removal

A motherboard must have a BIOS to operate, therefore there is no removal procedure.


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulties installing this BIOS update, download the file again, and then ensure that all instructions in this document are followed.


Reason for Update

Fixes HCT 9.5 ACPI System Test(Win2K) failure and eliminates some errors reported by Acpihct.exe in Windows 2000
Fixes an issue related to system fan to keep the fan on in S0 mode
Fixes "Drive B error" reported by the Intel Product team
Fixes the "r" missing in "Integrated Audio Controlle" in Setup
Lets the user have a choice of going back in to setup by pressing F2 after a soft_error_msg2 such as "Drive A: error"  appears

How To Update Drivers Manually

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
