Overview

This is a BIOS update for the Gateway E-3200 (Maverick) series computers.


Identification

To confirm that this is the correct BIOS update for your motherboard, follow these steps.

If the computer is turned off:

1.  Turn on the computer.  On your keyboard, repeatedly press the F1 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

2.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, on the Main tab, look for the BIOS version line.  The version needs to read 4J4NB0X1.15A.00xx.Pxx (where x represents an alphanumeric value that varies dependent upon the version of BIOS currently loaded).  The BIOS prefix 4J4NB0X1 is constant and specifically identifies the correct motherboard.

3.  If this is correct, this is the correct BIOS update for your motherboard.  Press the F10 key to exit the BIOS Setup Utility.

If the computer is turned on and in Windows:

1.  From the Start menu, click Shut Down, and then select the option to restart the computer.

2.  As soon as the computer restarts, on your keyboard, repeatedly press the F1 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

3.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, on the Main tab, look for the BIOS version line.  The version needs to read 4J4NB0X1.15A.00xx.Pxx (where x represents an alphanumeric value that varies dependent upon the version of BIOS currently loaded).  The BIOS prefix 4J4NB0X1 is constant and specifically identifies the correct motherboard.

4.  If this is correct, this is the correct BIOS update for your motherboard.  Press the F10 key to exit the BIOS Setup Utility.


Installation

Before updating your system BIOS, be sure to read the following.

Preparing Your Computer
	
1.  Before updating your computer's BIOS, enter the current BIOS Setup Utility, and then write down each of the current settings, in the event that this information is needed again after the upgrade.
	
2.  After you have downloaded the BIOS update file, 7510976.exe, on your screen double-click the 7510976.exe icon.  

3.  The files self-extract and copy into the C:\Cabs\7510976 folder on the hard disk drive.


Copying the Files

Note:  The following instructions may vary depending on the operating system installed on your computer.  

1.  On your screen, double-click the My Computer icon.

2.  In the My Computer window, double-click the C: icon.

3.  In the C:\ window, double-click the Cabs folder.  If you do not see any files, click View the entire contents of the drive. 

4.  In the C:\Cabs window, double-click the 7510976 folder.

5.  In the C:\Cabs\7510976 window, from the Edit menu, click Select All.

6.  From the Edit menu, click Copy.

7.  Quit all programs and close all windows.

8.  Place a formatted, blank floppy disk in the floppy disk drive.

9.  On your screen, double-click the My Computer icon.

10.  In the My Computer window, double-click the A: icon.

11.  In the A:\ window, from the Edit menu, click Paste.  Files copy to the floppy disk.


Performing the Update

1.  Restart the computer with the disk in the floppy disk drive.

2.  The BIOS update begins automatically.  The BIOS Update Utility displays the following text: 

 The BIOS update utility will automatically perform the following steps in sequence:
  a.  Update the system BIOS
  b.  Reset all CMOS settings to default values
  c.  Reset the system to activate changes

 Note: Remove the BIOS update disk from the floppy drive after the BIOS update utility resets the system.

 Press any key to continue . . . 

3.  Press the ENTER key on your keyboard.  The Intel Flash Memory Update Utility updates the BIOS.

4.  When complete, the computer automatically restarts.

5.  Remove the floppy disk from the floppy disk drive before the computer restarts.

6.  As the computer restarts, begin pressing the F1 key in one-second intervals.  If you perform this step correctly, the BIOS Setup Utility menu opens.  If Windows loads normally, repeat this step.

7.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, personal settings can be adjusted.  Press the F10 key to save and exit the BIOS Setup Utility.

8.  The BIOS flash is complete.


Removal

A motherboard must have a BIOS to operate, therefore, there is no removal procedure.


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulties installing this BIOS update, download the file again, and then ensure that all installations in this document are followed.


Reason for Update

This BIOS revision updates the PXE Boot version.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
