                      1.06 BIOS UPGRADE FOR P5-60
                      ============================

Disclaimer:    
   Gateway 2000 is releasing P5-60 version 1.00.06.AF1 as a BETA release. No
   testing has been done by Gateway on this version of the BIOS. The BIOS is
   being made avilable to our customers as a result of video problems
   encountered by some customers with Windows NT, OS/2 and some video card
   vendors.


IMPORTANT !!! PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE UPGRADING.

These BIOS ( Ver 1.00.06.AF1) are for upgrading from P5-60 BIOS version:
1.00.03.AF1 ONLY !!

 --> DO NOT USE THESE BIOS IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER P5-60 BIOS VERSION <--

The bios version is displayed at boot time in the upper left corner.



CREATING A BOOTABLE FLASH AND RECOVERY DISK.
============================================

1.)     Format a blank floppy as a system disk. At the DOS prompt type:

                                C:> FORMAT A: /S

2.)     Create an empty directory on your hard drive. At the DOS prompt:

                                C:> MD \BIOS

3.)     Copy the file (10006AF1.EXE) to the \BIOS directory, change to
	the BIOS directory and execute the file:

                C:> COPY C:\Your_path\10006AF1.EXE  C:\BIOS
                C:> CD \BIOS
                C:\BIOS> 10006AF1

        When you execute the file, it will decompress into several files.

4.)     Copy ALL the files in the C:\BIOS directory onto the formatted 
        floppy.

                  C:\BIOS> COPY *.* A:\

5.)     You now have a "BOOTABLE FLASH AND RECOVERY DISK".


                      

UPGRADING YOU BIOS (Flashing)
==============================

NOTE: TO INSTALL THE BIOS CORRECTLY YOU MUST BOOT FROM THE FLASH DISK.

1.)     Reboot you computer with your "BOOTABLE FLASH AND RECOVERY DISK" 
        in drive A. You can do this with the RESET button or CTRL-ALT-DEL.


2.)     The system will come up with the "FLASH MEMORY UPDATE UTILITY"
        screen. PRESS ENTER TO CONTINUE.

3.)     The "MAIN MENU" will appear. With a help box describing the options.

        Using the down arrow key highlight the option:
                  "UPDATE FLASH MEMORY AREA FROM A FILE". 
        
        PRESS ENTER TO CONTINUE.

4.)     The "UPDATE FLASH AREA" window will appear. "UPDATE SYSTEM BIOS"
        should be highlighted (if it is not use the arrow keys to
        highlight it). With "UPDATE SYSTEM BIOS" highlighted.
        PRESS ENTER TO CONTINUE.

5.)     The "ENTER PATH/FILNAME" window will appear. Press the down arrow
        key once to highlight "1006AF1.BIO in the Files Box.
        PRESS ENTER TO CONTINUE.

6.)     After a short wait, the "VERIFY IMAGE" window should appear. 
        "CONTINUE WITH PROGRAMMING" should be highlighted.
        PRESS ENTER TO UPGRADE.

7.)     After a short wait, a message window should appear. "CONTINUE"
        should be highlighted. REMOVE THE FLASH DISK FROM THE FLOPPY
        DRIVE AND PRESS ENTER.

8.)     The system will reboot with:  "BIOS Version 1.00.06.AF1" at the
        upper left hand corner.

9.)     At this point your BIOS have been upgraded to the new version.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
