Overview
========
This is a BIOS update for the Gateway E-3400 (Corfu2) series computer.

Identification
==============
To identify if this is the correct BIOS file for you follow these steps:

Computer off:
1.  Turn on the computer and start pressing F1 on your keyboard. This will prompt the computer to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

2.  Once in the BIOS, look at the bottom of the screen for the BIOS version. The version should read 0AAVEP02, 0AAVEP03, 0AAVEP05, 0AAVEP06, 0AAVEP07, or 0AAVEP08.

3.  If one of these BIOS versions are displayed, then you have the correct BIOS update.

Computer in Windows(r):
1.  From the Start menu, click Shut Down.
2.  Select Restart, and then click OK.
3.  As soon as the screen turns black start pressing F1. This will prompt the computer to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.
4.  Once in the BIOS, look at the bottom of the screen for the BIOS version. The version should read 0AAVEP02, 0AAVEP03, 0AAVEP05, 0AAVEP06, 0AAVEP07, or 0AAVEP08.

5.  If one of these BIOS versions are displayed, then you have the correct BIOS update.

Installation
============
Before updating your BIOS, be sure to read the following.

	1.  Preparing your computer.
	2.  Make a blank floppy disk.
	3.  Copying the files.
	4.  Performing the update


1.  Preparing your computer.
	
Note:  Before you update your BIOS you should enter the current BIOS and write down the settings.
	
2.  Before you can update your BIOS, you must first prepare a disk.

 a. In Windows 9x, insert the floppy into the floppy drive.
 b. On the desktop, double-click My Computer.
 c. Select the 3 1/2 Floppy (A:) icon, and then from the File menu, click Format.
 d. Under Format Type select Full, and then click the Start button.
 e. When the format is complete a Format Results box will appear, click Close.
 f. Click Close to exit the Format window.

3.  Copying the files

 a. Double-click the 7512747.exe file to expand the file.
 b. Copy all of the files from C:\Cabs\7512747\ to your disk.
 c. The disk is now ready.

4.  Performing the update

 a. Restart the computer with the disk in the floppy drive.
 b. The BIOS update will begin automatically and not require any user actions.  This can be verified by the text on the screen.  The screen will display a line as follows:

 c. The AMI Firmware Update Utility will erase specific memory areas, rewrite the new code to those addresses, and then verify completion. This program will reset the BIOS Setup settings to default values.
 d. When the process is complete, the computer will return to an A:/ prompt.
 e. Remove the floppy disk from the floppy drive and restart the computer.
 f. No configuration error should be experienced during restart. Should an error occur, press F1 to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.
 g. In the BIOS, press F10, and then press ENTER to save and exit.
 h. BIOS flash complete.

Removal
=======
A motherboard must have a BIOS to operate, therefore there is no removal procedure.

Troubleshooting
===============
Reset the BIOS settings to default values (Press F9), save settings and restart the computer. If the BIOS fails to load, download the file again, follow instructions provided in the Readme.txt file and update the BIOS again.  

Reason for Update
=================
- Fix for a Win XP error message "Error Message: ACPI BIOS Is Attempting to Write to Illegal IO Port  Address (0x70, 0x71, 0x410).
- Added updated Processor speeds.
- Added compatibility for Win XP.
- Fix recovery stopping at checkpoint 2F after crash BIOS ROM image by AFUDOS.
- Changes done to speed the BIOS POST (Power On Self Test).
- Fixed the issue of the WD 80GB hard drive is reported as 14G in BIOS setup.
- Fixed the problem of identification of devices connected to the secondary IDE controller. This was showing up as available, in Windows NT(r) 4.0 with Intel's ATA100 Driver installed.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
