Overview

This is the P08 BIOS update for the Intel(r) EA81520A (Kittyhawk and Kittyhawk 1.5 (E-1800)) motherboard.


Identification

To confirm that this is the correct BIOS update for your motherboard, perform the following steps.

If the computer is turned off:

1.  Turn on the computer.  On your keyboard, repeatedly press the F1 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

2.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, on the Main tab, look for the BIOS version line.  The version needs to read EA81520A.xxx.xxxx.Pxx (where x is variable characters).  The BIOS prefix EA81520A is constant and specifically identifies the correct motherboard.

3.  If this is correct, this is the correct BIOS update for your motherboard.  Press the F10 key to exit the BIOS Setup Utility.

If the computer is turned on and in Windows:

1.  From the Start menu, click Shut Down.  In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, select Restart, and then click Yes.

2.  As soon as the computer restarts, on your keyboard, repeatedly press the F1 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

3.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, on the Main tab, look for the BIOS version line.  The version needs to read EA81520A.xxx.xxxx.Pxx (where x is variable characters).  The BIOS prefix EA81520A is constant and specifically identifies the correct motherboard.

4.  If this is correct, this is the correct BIOS update for your motherboard.  Press the F10 key to exit the BIOS Setup Utility.


Installation

Prepare Your Computer

Before updating your computer's BIOS, enter the current BIOS Setup Utility, and then write down each of the current settings, in the event that this information is needed again after the upgrade.

Note: The following instructions may vary dependent upon the operating system currently loaded on the computer.  

Copy the Files

1.  After you have downloaded and double-clicked the BIOS update file (9519109.exe), the files are self-extracted and copied into the C:\Cabs\9519109 folder on the hard drive.

2.  On your screen or from the Start menu, double-click the My Computer icon.

3.  In the My Computer window, double-click the C: icon.

4.  In the C:\ window, double-click the Drivers folder.  If you do not see any files or folders, click View the entire contents of the drive option. 

5.  In the C:\Cabs window, double-click the 9519109 folder.

6.  In the C:\Cabs\9519109 window, from the Edit menu, click Select All.

7.  From the Edit menu, click Copy.

8.  Quit all programs and close all windows.

9.  Place a formatted, blank floppy disk in the floppy disk drive.

10.  On your screen or from the Start menu, double-click the My Computer icon.

11.  In the My Computer window, double-click the A: icon.

12.  In the A:\ window, from the Edit menu, click Paste.  The files are copied to the floppy disk.

Perform the Update

1.  Restart the computer with the disk in the floppy disk drive.

2.  An Intel Flash Memory update utility screen appears.  Press the ENTER key.

3.  On the Main Menu screen, verify that Update Flash memory area from a file is selected.  Press ENTER.

4.  On the Flash area screen, verify that Update System BIOS is selected.  Press ENTER.

5.  On the Enter Path\Filename screen, press the DOWN ARROW key once to select P08-0011.BIO, and then press ENTER.

6.  On the Confirm BIOS version information screen, select To continue with programming, and then press ENTER.

7.  A "BIOS update is now in progress don't press any key or turn off the system at this time" message appears.

8.  After the update is complete, press ENTER to continue, and then eject the floppy disk.  The computer restarts at this time.  If the computer does not automatically restart, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to manually restart it.

9.  While restarting, you may receive a "BIOS configuration" message.  If so, press the F1 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

10.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, press the F10 key, and then press ENTER to save and exit.


Removal

A motherboard must have a BIOS to operate, therefore, there is no removal procedure.  


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulties installing this BIOS update, download the file again, and then ensure that all installation steps in this document are followed.  If a checksum error message appears, enter the BIOS Setup Utility, change to default values, and then restart the computer.


Reason for Update

The following items changed or were added in this BIOS version:

Updated VBIOS to VBIOS Build Number: 2682 07/18/2002 10:32:16.
Added latest PARTIES and 48 Bit LBA Support.
Displayed and sustained Setup prompt messages longer during the power-on self-test (POST).
Added code to allow PCI bus add-in card MODEMS to wake the system from S5.
Removed floppy detection question.
Enabled the SIO as a wake event when shutting down from MS-DOS (Soft off). Currently, the only wake event that is supported is wake from COM1.
Changed UDMA mode display in Setup to only show maximum supported mode, taking the cable type into consideration.
Changed the way we detect the presence of hard drives to take into account off-board hard drives (attached via a controller) to properly display hard drive detection message.
Added the help text for Wake on Ring.
Updated to latest Intel Boot Agent, version 4.0.19.
Fixed an issue where system will not detect AIMM display cache card.
Fixed issue where on-board IDE controller device PC registers were getting programmed incorrectly during jumper recovery.
Fixed issue where PCI devices not functional when a bridge card is installed in the system.
Resolved issue where the sleep type and sleep enable bit where being set simultaneously.
Added support to free up Option ROM space by disabling PXE.  Added the Q_DISPATCH_PXE in Setup.
Cleared the "Clear ESCD" bit in the CMOS flags.  The net effect is that the system will then quit redoing the ESCD on every startup.
Fixed the cache line size for PCI BUS Masters.
Added a SETUP question to enable/disable setting of the ISA Enable Bit on PCI bridges.
Fixed issue where the INT13 seek command (function 0Ch) was not writing the Sector Number register.
Fixed issue where certain USB mass storage devices were stopping the system in POST.
Increased the size of the language slot.
Added CORE support to Enable/Disable JT Processor support.
Added new Summary screen.
Added new PARTIES HPA supports.
Added help text for Fixed Disk Boot Sector control option.

How To Update Drivers Manually

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
