XP-Fixes ReadMe.txt Driver File Contents (Visioneer5600-xp.zip)

Symptoms
#1 Visioneer 5600 Scanner will not work at all with XP.
#2 Paperport Deluxe 7.0 errors and will not work with XP.

CD needed "Visioneer. OneTouch 5600 USB" P/N 41-0200-200"
This CD is obtainable FREE (you pay 9.95 shipping/handling) from Visioneer at:

Visioneer states that the software on this CD is "Signed" by Microsoft for Windows XP but you may have compatibility issues.
If so follow the instructions below.

Symptom #1
Visioneer 5600 Scanner will not work at all with XP.

Cause:
USB Driver incompatibility, you do not have the currently signed XP USB driver for this scanner.

Solution:
1. You must first Install the Scansoft Paperport Deluxe 7.0 software and drivers from the above mentioned CD (this is probably where you experience problems).

2. Decompress V5600ALL.zip to a temporary directory.

3. In the temporary directory open the folder "USB Drivers" and run "5600inclXP.exe" to update your Windows 95, 98SE, ME, 2000, and XP USB drivers.

4. Restart your computer

ADDITIONAL Symptom #2
Paperport Deluxe 7.0 errors and will not work with XP.

When opening PaperPort or using the buttons on a Visioneer 5600 scanner in Windows XP, you are receiving errors such as "PaperPort.exe 7.0 module pplinkbr.ocx", "OneTouch Mon has caused errors" or "PaperPort.exe has encountered errors and will now close." 

Cause:
You have one or more Adobe v5.x drivers on your computer and there is a Known conflict with Adobe 5.x and PaperPort.

Solution:
FIRST: Try this: Right mouse Click on the PaperPort icon and choose properties. Select the compatibility tab. If the line "Run this program in compatibility mode" is checked, uncheck it. Select OK and try opening PaperPort or scanning again.

If the problem is still present, try the following:
1. Exit out of PaperPort. 
2. Run the Scansoft patch for Adobe 5.0
   (paperportaf.exe, File size-3.3MB) included in V5600ALL.zip
3. Restart your computer. 

4. Now run the Scansoft PaperPort v.7 LinkPatch included in
   V5600ALL.zip (paperportaf.exe File size-645K).
5. Restart your computer. 

6. Launch PaperPort again.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
