INSTRUCTIONS.txt Driver File Contents (DE5620-3-XPwave.zip)

After installing/updating the driver for the modem using the .INF file in this archive or the one supplied with WinXP, there will be an entry in Device Manager under Sound, Video and Game Controllers called, "Modem Wave Device" with a yellow exclamation mark indicating that the modem wave device is not installed. There is no working Creative-supplied wave driver as with other of Creative's modems, so the device must be set to use the "Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device" driver using the procedure below:

1. Right click "Modem Wave Device" and select "Update Driver".
2. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)".
3. Select "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install".

At this point, if a single pane appears with various hardware categories, scroll down and pick "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" and proceed to step 4.

4. Scroll down and choose "Microsoft" on the left pane.
5. Scroll down and choose "Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device" on the right pane.
6. Click "Next" and continue to accept the driver despite the dire warnings.

This should provide users of the Creative DE5620-3 external modem sufficient audio support for use in WinXP Caller-ID and answering machine applications. I use Imptec's Callstation (http://www.imptec.com) and have had excellent, reliable results with Caller-ID, speakerphone and answering functions. The hardware-based DE5620-3 beats the crap out of my Creative internal PCI software-WinModem (DI5630-4), which often failed to report the Caller-ID and had extremely sucky audio performance when used as a speakerphone.

Hope this helps some other desperate driver-seekers.
