Amazing Brain

Now that your amazing brain is warmed up, make up a short fable of your own. Suppose you and your writing partners have the same moral in mind: You can't always please everyone.

Think of three characters that you could create who might be like the man and his daughters described in the earlier activity. One of them could be a teacher or a scout leader or an uncle or the mayor. The other two characters want different and conflicting things from that person. (Think about what the daughters wanted.)

Give your characters names and set the scene.

First Character:

This character wants: < >

Second Character:

< >

This character wants: < >

Third Character:

< >

This character wants: < >

Place:

< >

Situation: (What do the characters do?)

Outcome:

Let everyone in your writing group contribute ideas. Go back to your notes as often as you need to.

Ask another writer to be your editor to read your work and make suggestions for improving it.

Remember -- Try to keep your sentences from being too skinny or too overstuffed!

Begin writing the first draft of your fable at the angle brackets below. Let the editor make suggestions. Polish up your work for a final copy. Finally, print out a copy for each partner.
