Name: < > Class: < > Date: < > Good Start Your goal in working through the files on this disk is to be able to write a good paragraph. A strong, well-ordered paragraph usually has three characteristics: 1. Topic Sentence -- The topic sentence contains the one main idea of the paragraph. The topic sentence is usually the very first sentence in the paragraph. 2. Supporting Details -- Supporting details are sentences that expand on the topic of the paragraph. A paragraph may have one or several supporting details. 3. Summary Sentence -- The summary sentence is usually the last sentence in a paragraph. It ties together the ideas expressed in the paragraph. In this file you will practice writing topic sentences. Later on you will practice adding supporting details and writing good summary sentences. ==================== Topic Sentences A topic sentence contains two basic parts: a subject and an important comment about that subject.
