Memories

Memories are important. They connect us to our past and help us see ourselves moving through time. Some memories are very happy, while others are very sad.

Below, you are going to write about three memories. First, choose a memory from very early in your life. Then choose a memory from the middle of your life. The third memory will be quite recent.

Write two or three sentences describing a memory from long ago, perhaps your earliest memory. For example:

I remember my sister and I playing in a sandbox. I don't know where it was. I cried because my sister wouldn't let me play with her red dump truck.

Write two or three sentences about a memory from the middle of your life.

Once my grandma picked me up after school and we went downtown to where she does volunteer work. I helped serve dinner to the homeless.

Write two or three sentences about a recent, important memory.

This morning I couldn't find my toothbrush. I had to give a speech in class and I wanted to look my best. What a day to loose your toothbrush!

====================

Read through your three memories. Are there any similarities among them? Are all three happy or sad? Are any of the events similar? Are any of the people the same? Do you get a particular feeling now just reading them?

In the space below, write a comparison of your three memories.

====================

What makes us remember things? Why did those three memories stay with you, while you forgot lots of other things? In the space below, type three things that have happened within the last week that you think you will remember ten years from now.
