An acrostic poem is easy, fun, and challenging. It is like a crossword puzzle, but because it is a poem, there is no right answer. You can be playful, silly, or serious. The only rule in an acrostic poem is that you write the theme word, or title, vertically as a trunk down the page or screen.

A name acrostic poem uses a person's name as the trunk of the poem. Each line is like a branch, and each branch must begin from the trunk. Below is an example of a name acrostic poem. The example below is based on the name "Nancy." Notice that Nancy has stayed with her theme. She is describing herself.
