Name: < > Class: < > Date: < > I Used To You are constantly changing. Once you couldn't read, but now you can. Once you wrote with a pencil, now you're typing. Once you rode a three-wheeler, now you ride a ten-speed. Think about changes that occur to everyone your age. Think about yourself when you were younger. Think about yourself as a baby, as a toddler, as a kindergartner, as a second grader, as you are now. Write a poem about yourself in the "I used to" form shown below. Here's an example: I used to be slow But now I am fast. I used to have short hair But now I have long. I used to like ice cream But now I like yogurt. I used to hate subtraction But now I love math. I used to ride tricycles But now I ride bikes. I used to live in Albuquerque But now I live in St. Paul. I used to play chopsticks But now I play Chopin. Name and save this file now. I used to < > But now I < >. I used to < > But now I < >. I used to < > But now I < >. I used to < > But now I < >. ==================== Share Share your poem with your writing group or a friend. Compare "used to's" and "now's." Are there similarities? ...differences? You may want to print just your poem to do this. After sharing your poem, can you and a friend or your writing group write a "Used To" poem that describes your age group? The poem would contain changes that are true for everyone your age. Work with your writing group or a friend to create a group "Used To" poem below. ==================== We Used To, But Now... We used to < > But now we < >. We used to < > But now we < >.
