Character ED says: "We build character by trying to speak and act honestly. We try to be sincere."

"Hmmmp!" says Liz. "ED sounds like a goody-goody!"

"Not True!" says Character ED.

Does Character ED sound like a goody-goody? Tell how you feel he sounds:

< >

Character ED says: "A goody-goody may pretend to speak and act honestly."

"You mean a goody-goody is a hypocrite--an insincere person?" asks Liz.

"Maybe. Can't say for sure what goes on inside someone else's head. We need to be careful about labeling people."

Can we judge what people are like inside by their outside? Tell what you think. Try to give an example:

< >

"No one's perfect," says Liz.

"That's for sure!" says Character ED. "But we need to try to be the best we can."

Write what you feel about being the best we can. Tell why it is important or not important--if that is what you feel.

< >

Go back and reconsider what you just wrote. Did you write what you honestly feel? If not, make changes.

Consider this situation:

Robin's father owns a large sporting goods store. Robin acts like he's the son of the emperor of Japan, like he's a real big shot! He always has new skates, new skis, new everything--including sneakers for every day of the week, almost. Geeze! Here he comes, now!

"Hey, Buster, want to go sailing with me and my dad on our new boat this weekend?" Geeze, what'll I do! I'd love to go sailing, but with Robin? What will the guys say if they find out! We all think Robins a real < >.

"Well?" Robin asks; he wants Buster's answer.

List a few of Buster's options:

< >

Tell what you would do if you were Buster, and why:

< >

It seems Robin is rich in things, but not in friends.

List several ideas why Robin lacks for friends:

< >

Ideas to consider:
* Buster and the guys are jealous of Robin because of all his things.
* Robin looks and acts superior to Buster and the guys.
* Buster and the guys dislike Robin's rich look and actions.

Choose one idea why Robin lacks friends, either from those you've listed or those suggested.

Solving Buster's problem

Use your idea for why Robin lacks friends, and help solve Buster's problem. Remember, Buster wants to go sailing, but with Robin? Think, then write the next chapter. Tell what Buster might do or say to accomplish all of the following:

-go sailing with Robin
-be sincere and honest with Robin
-be sincere and honest with the guys

Buster Solves His Problem

< >

Does your chapter show Buster acting the best he can? If so, Buster may be speaking and acting as honestly as he can. If your chapter does not show this, see if you can help Buster be sincere.
