Name: < > Class: < > Date: < > Limericks Limericks have a definite rhythm, like a chant. They're also a bit of a puzzle, like an acrostic. The puzzle is that you must rhyme the first, second, and fifth lines. The third and fourth lines must also rhyme, and must also be shorter. For example: There once was a lazy young fool Who never wanted to go to school He never would rake But preferred to eat cake And he cried that the world was so cruel How many lines are in this limerick? If you counted five, that's correct. Notice that the first, second, and fifth lines rhyme and are also the longest. The third and fourth lines also rhyme, and they are the shortest. ==================== Here are a few more limericks that are incomplete. Complete the limericks by typing a rhyming word between the angle brackets. Use the rhyming words in the "ight" family for the endings to the first, second, and fifth lines. Then use the words in the other word family for the shorter third and fourth lines, which also must rhyme.
