I Met Magic

Do numbers belong in a poem? You bet they do! Read the poem "I Met Magic" on the screen below or on the handout sheet. You may wish to compare it with Shel Silverstein's poem "Magic" in Where the Sidewalk Ends.

Read the poem and notice the numbers.

I Met Magic

I met magic
at a picnic
Fantastic!

I met two trolls
in two troll holes
eating Oreos from little troll bowls

I met three goblins
with knobby double chins
greeting us all with gobbledygook grins

I met four little elves
sitting in a row on a little elf shelf
placing chocolate cars on chocolate bars

I met five witches
in a pitch black ditch
brewing and stewing an awful thick mix

I met six leprechauns
springing up on the lawn
singing six songs, one-by-one they were gone

I met seven ghosts
sitting on seven posts
boasting and roasting pot roast and toast

I met magic
at a picnic
Fantastic!
