Example Counterargument:

One counterargument you might make is: "A longer school year does not necessarily make a better school year." Below, the writer has tried to weaken that argument by dealing with it in the conclusion. The capitalized sentence has been added.

Summer vacation is fun, but American schools tend to overdo it. It is time that the schools take vacations that are more realistic to the current world situation. If the school year is not lengthened, America will continue to fall further and further behind the rest of the industrial world. LENGTHENING THE SCHOOL YEAR WILL NOT SOLVE ALL THE PROBLEMS WITH EDUCATION, BUT IT WILL BE THE FIRST STEP IN SHOWING THE WORLD, AS WELL AS ALL AMERICANS, THAT WE ARE SERIOUS ABOUT IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF THE EDUCATION AMERICANS RECEIVE.
