Fall Chant

A chant repeats words in a line across the page. An acrostic puts words in a line down the page. Put the two together to make a chant/acrostic poem about our favorite subject on this lesson.

Build a fall chant/acrostic by thinking first of a fall subject. Then, think again! What is the first word that comes to mind about the subject?

Suppose the subject is fall "weather." Your word might be "cool." The letters of "cool" are typed going down:

C
O
O
L

Then, think of a word that begins with "C" and chant!

C ool, cool, cool
O oo, ooo, ooo
O ver the red barn
L ooms old farm owl.

Or, suppose the subject is Columbus Day on October 12. The word that comes to mind might be "ship." The letters of "ship" are typed going down:

S
H
I
P

Now it's time to make a chant:

S ailing, sailing, sailing
H ome, home, home
I into the afternoon
P ray it will be soon!
