Trust 2

This file is just for you! --unless you choose to share it.

"Insincerity-deceitfulness-lying--this stuff is tricky!" says Liz.

"True," says Character ED. "Human behavior can be as tricky as Fox's behavior toward Mrs. Goose."

"So, if behavior is so tricky, how can we learn to trust?"

"Good question!" says Character Ed.

Tell what you think. If behavior is so tricky, how can we learn to trust others? First, think about one person you trust. Complete this sentence:

I trust < > because (List your reasons):

Perhaps among the reasons you listed for trusting someone are these. You can depend upon that person to:

* keep promises
* speak truthfully
* say what she/he means
* act fairly
* <  >

Character ED says: "We trust someone whom we can depend upon to speak and act honestly."

Do you know a person you do not trust?

Yes/No

<  >

If Yes, give a reason or an example of why you do not trust the person.

<  >

How about you? Have you given someone a reason for not trusting you? Write about it:

<  >

How does not being trusted by someone make you feel?

<  >

Think about trust. Consider these ideas about being trusted:

* I want people I trust to trust me.
* I want everyone to trust me.
* I want people I care about to trust me.
* I want people who care about me to trust me.

Does one of the ideas match how you think or feel? If not, write your own idea. Explain your choice:

<  >

Note: If you feel that much of the time you are not trusted, there are reasons. You may be wrong about your feelings. Explore that possibility. If you are right about your feelings, you are giving people reasons not to trust you. Do you want to be trusted? It's simple, if not always easy. Speak and act honestly. Try it. If you want to be trusted, you can be.

Lifelong Hint:
If we make a habit of deceiving others, we give them reason not to trust us. If we make a habit of being truthful, we give others reason to trust us.

If you haven't done so already, name and save this file now. (Press ctrl+S, type a name for the file, and press enter.)
