Supporting Detail Sentences: Sentences that describe and expand on the topic of the paragraph are called supporting details. There may be one or several supporting detail sentences.

Insert Details

Read each paragraph below. Each one contains a topic sentence, one detail sentence, and <  > angle brackets for you to add more detail sentences and a summary sentence.

Find the <  > angle brackets in each paragraph and type in two more sentences. The new sentences should add supporting details about the paragraph's main idea.

1)  I would love to take a trip to Africa. Wild animals fascinate me! <  > It would be the best trip I could imagine.

2)  The book was the scariest one I have ever read. The story seemed very real. <  > I could not put the book down until I was finished.
