Mixed Up


Activity 1

The passage below has some words with mixed up letters in them. When you find such a word, delete one of the letters with the Delete or Backspace key. Then move the cursor to where that letter should go. Type in the letter. Don't press Entr. If you press Enter accidentally, move your cursor just past where you pressed Entr, then press the Delete or Backspace key.



Of evrey 1000 babies bron, one will be born deaf or almsot daef. Hwile that may be sad, a child hwo can't haer can still laern language. Most deaf childern learn a sign language. In our cuontry, most laern Amreican Sign Language. Poeple who use this language make "signs" with thier hands, and each sing stadns for a wrod. Deaf people aslo have signs for the lettres of the alhpabet. This way, they can spell a wrod even if thye don't have a specail sign fro the word.

There is a gruop of actors callde the National Theater of the Deaf that uses sign langauge in plays. And there are even peoms that have bene rwitten in sign language. Sign language ins't hard to leanr. Maybe yuo shuold try ti.

Activity 2

Imagine that you are deaf. Put your hands over your ears and keep reading. Imagine people moving their mouths while they are talking to you, but you hear no sound. You've never heard any sounds. Write a few sentences at the <  > angle brackets below telling what you think it would be like to be completely deaf. If you have partners, let each person contribute one sentence.

Mixer/Fixer:  Let one partner mix up some letters in at least five words. Then have another partner play "fixer" and do the repair work. Let each partner have a chance to play both roles.
