Welcome to You Are the Editor I! Have you ever wondered what an editor does?

Every writer needs an editor to make her or his writing the best it can be.

An editor makes suggestions to a writer to make weak writing stronger.

An editor also looks for mistakes in:

Spacing
Spelling
Punctuation
Word Choice
Sentence Style
Paragraph Divisions
Sequence of Ideas
Unity of Ideas

Editing with a word processor (such as an AlphaSmart device or a computer) can be fun, whether you're the writer or the editor or both. And it can be easier than with a pen or a typewriter. The activities you'll be doing will give you practice editing. They will also give you practice with the features of your word processor, such as:

Inserting
Deleting
Changing
Moving 
Copying
Searching
Spacing
Indenting

For now, how about "warming-up" to your keyboard! See if you can discover the message written in code, below. This is a before-letter code. That means that each "code" letter you see is the letter before the "real" letter in the alphabet. So, code A = real letter B, code E = real letter F, code Z = real letter A, and so on.
