Tired Words

The following story contains many "tired words" enclosed in [ ]. These are words that are used too often in speaking and writing; they are vague and uninteresting. Using the Delete or Backspace key, delete them and replace them with more interesting and specific words or phrases of your own. But first read the passage all the way through.

Last weekend I went with [some other kids] to this [really neat] park. There was [a lot of] [super] [stuff] there. There was a [wonderful] water slide, a [great big] see-saw, a [pretty good] jungle gym, and [lots of] other [nice, interesting things].

This [really] smart kid climbed to the top of the jungle gym and then climbed down again. He said it was [hard] to do. "You're too [little,]" he said to [us kids]. "You should play in the [nice] sandbox."

I told him that was a [dumb] idea. The sandbox was [boring]. Then I had a [good] idea. "I'll race you to the top of the jungle gym," I said.

We started to climb the bars, but I won! "Well," I said, when he got to the top, "that's the most [fun] [thing] I've done in a [pretty] long time."
