Pippi Longstocking

Pippi Longstocking is the heroine of several children's books written by Astrid Lindgren, a Swedish author. Pippi is truly a tall tale character. She is about nine years old and lives alone with her pet horse and monkey in a wonderful old house called Villa Villekulla.

What makes Pippi a tall tale heroine? Well, she is the strongest little girl in the world. She can easily lift anyone or anything, from her horse or a hungry shark that's trying to attack her friend, to two adult crooks. Pippi is absolutely fearless and so confident that she will take on and solve any problem.

Pippi loves childhood play and nonsense. She will talk a mile a minute making no sense to upset an adult's boring ideas. She is short, freckled, red-headed and supremely independent. Pippi is never lonely and she is always ready for an adventure.

Try reading a few chapters from Pippi Longstocking, Pippi on Board, or Pippi in the South Seas, create your own episode in which Pippi is the star character. Perhaps in your episode, she is with her friends, Tommy and Annika; or perhaps she is with you and some of your friends or classmates. Perhaps Pippi's adventure takes place in her native country of Sweden, or maybe Pippi comes to America. I'm sure she'd enjoy the trip and would love to visit.
