Fall Setting

By filling in information in the insert markers below, create three different effects and then choose one for a fall story setting. Then add a character, dialogue, and action to complete the story.

1) Create a "pleasant" effect as you fill in the insert markers:

It's a <  > fall day. Overhead, the sky is <  >, and off in the distance, I see <  >. There's a taste of <  > in the <  >. I hear a <  > like the <  > of <  >.

2) Create an "unpleasant" effect as you fill in the insert markers:

It's a <  > fall day. Overhead, the sky is <  >, and off in the distance, I see <  >. There's a taste of <  > in the <  >. I hear a <  > like the <  > of <  >.

3) Create a "mysterious" effect as you fill in the insert markers:

It's a <  > fall day. Overhead, the sky is <  >, and off in the distance, I see <  >. There's a taste of <  > in the <  >. I hear a <  > like the <  > of <  >.

Name and save this file now. (Press Ctrl-S, type a name for the file, and press Enter.)

====================

Choose one of your paragraphs about fall to use as the setting for a story. Introduce a character into the scene. Here is a pattern to change or complete. Or, write a character into the scene without using the pattern.

<  >, a <  > <  >, comes <  > through <  >. It's <  > <  >, a <  > I've known since <  >. <  > has <  > <  >, a <  > <  > and wears <  >. When I look at <  >, I get <  > <  > there is going to be <  >.

====================

Next, describe what happens! Let's see characters do and say something interesting!

"< >," I say. "<  > is sure to <  >."

"<  > <  >," says <  > . "<  >."

Nothing I <  > seemed <  >. How, I wondered, could I <  >? Just then, <  >. Now, <  > would have to <  >. At last I <  >.

====================

Read your story out loud. How does it sound? Make any changes you feel are needed.

If you haven't done so already, name and save this file now. (Press Ctrl-S, type a name for the file, and press Enter.)
