Sally's Story

Poor Sally was so sad. "Christmas is over," she thought. "Vacation is over. My new sled has a crack. My mittens are lost. My skates are too small. I'm tired of snow and cold and school!"

Sally moped through January and most of February. Then one day in early < >, Sally got up and looked out the < >. Everything seemed different. The sun < > brighter. The air seemed < >. The snow was < >.

"It must be < >!" cried Sally. "I don't feel < >, I feel < >!"

"I'll dress up for school today," Sally said. She put on a white skirt and a pink blouse. She wore her new shoes. Out she went into the bright sunshine to catch the bus.

But before the bus got to school, the sun was gone. The sky was full of dark < >. Suddenly, everyone on the bus jumped. < > crashed! < > < > flashed. A strong < > came up and the < > shook. < > poured from the < >. Sally stepped off the bus into a big < >.

"Oh, no!" < > Sally. "My new < >! They're < >!" Poor Sally.

She'll feel < > when she sees the pretty < > that spring < > bring.

Jacob's Story

As soon as the sun was up, Jacob was up. He threw on his clothes, put six chocolate < > < > in a sack, and ran out the door. He grabbed his < > pole from the shed and hopped on his < >.

"A perfect day for < >!" said Jacob. "The ground is nice and < >. It should be easy to find < > for < >."

He pulled up along the < > bank and leaned his < > against a < >. In no time, he was < > on his < > digging for < >. "Hey!" he yelled. "You're a < >, squiggy, < >, < > < >, all right. I'll catch a < > with you on my < >."

Half an < > passed. Jacob didn't < > a < >. He didn't even get a < >. "I wonder," he thought, "if < > like < > < > < >. I still have one left. If I roll a piece of < > up in a green < >, maybe the < > will think it's a < >!"

Half an < > passed. Then another < > < >. Jacob checked his < >. "It's gone!" he < >. "Something's < > my < >!"

"Well," Jacob thought, as he packed up his < >. "That's the way the < > crumbles."
