How Many Ways?

One way to find just the right word for your writing is to think about how many ways there are to describe something. For example, think about how many ways you can describe how a person says something. The list might include these words:

Shriek
Scream
Whisper
Howl
Bellow
Mutter
Yell
Mumble

After you list all the ways you can think of (you may want to consult a thesaurus), write one sentence at the <  > angle brackets below. In the sentence, include one of the words for "say." Select the word that has the exact shade of meaning you want to achieve. Here is an example:

"No, no!" he screamed in terror, "I won't double-cross my friend!"
