Friendly Letter 2

Compose a friendly letter from scratch! Write to someone you truly want to write to. Perhaps you owe someone a letter or want to write someone you haven't seen lately.

Plan Your Letter

Make a list below of events or news that your friend would like to hear about. You can even include a joke, a poem, or some song lyrics you particularly like.

First Draft

Draft the body of your letter and write as though you were chatting with the person. Use a friendly tone as you include topics you've listed above. Try writing three or more paragraphs.

Revise and Edit

Edit your letter. Is what you say clear and complete? Perhaps adding or changing a word will bring an event or description alive.

Check for spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and usage errors.

Hint:
A good way to check for spelling errors in any document is to read it backwards. Try it here, starting to read from the last word in the last sentence.

Scroll back and make any changes you want to make so your letter is the best it can be!

Final Draft

Here are examples of the different parts of a letter to remind you of their form. After you have reviewed them, scroll down and put your own letter together.

Cerritos, CA 90701
June 1, 1989

Salutation Example:

Dear Sandy,

Body:

(Letter content in paragraph form.)

Complimentary Close Example:

Your friend,

George (signature)

Copy your final draft of the letter to the space provided below.

Add all the other parts of the letter in the designated locations. Then delete the words and angle brackets that show you where to put things.
