Have you ever teased someone?

Yes/No

< >

If yes, write what you remember most about a time you teased someone. If no, and you cannot remember teasing someone, write why you think you have not ever done so:

Have you ever been teased by someone?

If yes, write a sentence or two about how being teased made you feel, and why. If no, write why you think no one teases you:

Do you think teasing can be fun? Tell when you would find teasing fun:

Consider this situation:

A student in your class doesn't seem to have any friends. Behind his back, your classmates say Conrad stinks; he's too skinny; and he's a < > (Fill in a word your classmates would use).

Conrad's classmates do not always tease him behind his back. In fact, at recess, they called him < >, and started pushing him around. Lucky for him, the recess-is-over buzzer rang!

Do you think you would join your classmates in teasing Conrad?

Yes/No

Write a sentence or two telling why you think you would or would not join in:

< >

Tell how Conrad probably feels about being teased:

< >

Tell how you would feel if you were in Conrad's shoes:

List things you might do about being teased, if you were in his shoes:

Options [O] and Consequences [C] to consider:

O. Complain to the principal or a teacher
C. (Write what might happen, using this option):

< >

O. Call names and push back
C. (Write what might happen, using this option):

< >

O. Stand up and take it
C. (Write what might happen, using this option):

O. Talk your way out of it
C. (Write what might happen, using this option):

O. (Write another option):

C. (Write what might happen, using your option):

Choose what you think is your best option, and write a letter. Write to one of the following:

a. an imaginary student like Conrad whom everyone teases
b. a real classmate whom everyone teases
c. yourself, if you are a student whom everyone teases
d. a student who teases

My Letter to < > about Teasing

< >

Ideas you might (or might not!) like to think about for your letter:

a. the problem. Tell what the teasing is like.
b. the cause. Tell why you think the teasing happens.
c. the effect. Tell how the teasing feels.
d. the solution. Give advice on what you think is the best option to try, and what might happen as a result.

Note: If you are a student whom everyone teases, and you don't like it; you have some work ahead of you! Writing a letter to yourself will give you a place to start. Talking to someone you trust can help. How do you feel about your classmates? How do you feel about yourself?

Lifelong Hint:
For the most part, we do not have control over how others act.
And, we cannot always help how we feel. We can try to control
how we act. How we act helps us feel good or bad about ourselves.
