A - BIOS FLASHING INSTRUCTIONS (LOCAL)
     
  The following instructions explain how to flash the 
  system BIOS of your PC. These instructions apply to the 
  HP DOS flasher called PHLASH.

  Use these instructions if your PC runs with :
    - DOS 6.22
    - Windows 3.1 or Windows For Workgroup
    - Windows 95

A1. CREATING THE BIOS INSTALLATION DISKETTE
  a. Create a system diskette
  b. Copy the contents of this directory onto this diskette:
     copy *.* A:
     (Assuming that your diskette drive is A:)
     
A2. FLASHING THE BIOS
  a. Insert the BIOS installation diskette into the A: (B:)
     drive
  b. Boot the PC from the diskette to ensure a clean boot. 
  c. Launch the flashing command by typing from A: (B:) the
     following command:
     Flash
     
A3. SWITCHES (FOR ADVANCED USERS ONLY)

  Usage: 

     FLASH643 ROM_file_name /<parameter1> /<parameter2> /<parameter.....>

  Example: 

     FLASH643 HT0101.ROM /u /r     -> does a quick flashing and reboots
     
  Parameter Lists:

           ?|H|h : Help
               B : Force Boot Block Programming.
               b : Do not program Boot Block.
          C|c[X] : Load BIOS CMOS default values without warning the user about
                   any configuration change.
                   X = 0 or NULL, Load optimal CMOS setting
                     = 1, Load fail safe CMOS setting
                   Optimal CMOS setting is default
             Q|q : Return to OS instead of rebooting after update done.
             R|r : Force reboot after program done.
             U|u : Hidden user interface to hurry flasher process.
                   Return to OS instead of rebooting after update done, except 
                   if /r has been entered.
     
     
A4. ERRORS MESSAGES
 
After utility work done, Utility will returns error code for the OS.

Code definition:

00 No error
   Flashing has terminated normally
01 Utility can only be executed in Real Mode
02 Memory allocate failure
03 Read BIOS ROM file failure
04 System BIOS or BIOS ROM file is not proper
05 Erase flash failure
06 Program flash failure


A5. MAKING THE DISKETTE'S LABEL
  Texts to be written on diskette's label are given in the
       attached "disk.txt" file in the following fields:
     * Title
     * Subtitle
     * Version
     * Copyright 1
     * Copyright 2
     
  Example :
     * Title=HP VE C/xxx series 7
     * SubTitle=BIOS disk 
     * Version=HS.01.02
     * Copyright1=Copyright (c) Hewlett-Packard Co. 1998
     * Copyright2=Copyright (c) AMI Inc. 1998

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
