Introduction
------------
Thank you for your interest in GrIP (Gravis Interface Protocol). We are
very excited about the technology and the world of possibilities it opens
for software developers. You are no longer limited to the 2 joystick,
2 button limit on the existing PC gameport. GrIP allows multiple input
devices on the PC.

With GrIP it is possible to connect multiple control devices (>2) each
with multiple buttons (>2) through a standard gameport while freeing
yourself from the worries of calibration, speed compensation and the
tremendous drain that reading a regular joystick places on the CPU
(~10-12% vs GrIP's less than 1% for 4 controllers!).

Software Packages
-----------------
There are currently 4 parts to the GrIP package.

GrIP V1.0 SDK Software Developers Toolkit (this package)
GrIP Win'95 Win'95 Direct Input drivers
                GrIPkey Keyboard Emulator
Gravis Utilities - Joystick Calibration & Testing
                GrIP Loadable Library (GRIP.GLL)
GrIP DOS Gravis Utilities - Joystick Calibration & Testing
                GrIP Loadable Library (GRIP.GLL)
GrIP CD Includes both the DOS & Win'95 software as well
as games, images of our products (incl. GrIP MultiPort
and GrIPpad), and online user documentation.

GrIP Modes of Operation
-----------------------

1. Pass-Through Mode (LEDs Off & Green)

In this mode the unit acts like a standard joystick Y- adapter. One or two
standard PC joysticks can be connected to the DB-15 connectors on the
interface box and used in this mode.

2. Emulation Mode (LEDs Red & Off)

In emulation mode, the device is intelligent. It reads the state of the
connected GrIP controllers and emulates standard PC GamePads. One to four
GrIP compatible controllers can be plugged into the unit's 9-pin
connectors. The unit scans the four connectors for active controllers.
The controller on the lowest numbered connector becomes Joystick A. See
the user documentation for the functionality of each of the ports.

3. GrIP Mode (LED Green & Off)

This is the native mode for the device. In this mode, joysticks are read
using the GrIP API calls.

\DEMO Sample code and source that gives you an example of
using the GrIP API. To build this code, compile
and link all of the .C files using Watcom C++ V10.
GRIP_SDK.DOC GrIP's API documentation - Word 6 format.
