DPS Perception Driver patch 12/22/99
====================================

This patch contains the following fixes (since the PVR Release 2.61 driver):

* Windows 2000 support. The PVR driver now runs under Windows 2000. (A bluescreening bug that was present in the beta version of the Win2K driver has been fixed.)
* McAfee VirusScan fix. A problem with running the PVR driver with McAfee VirusScan has been fixed.
* Disk renaming. Perception disks can now be renamed on a temporary basis. (The original disk names are restored on next boot.)
* Disk Repair/Recovery algorithm has been improved to rename files that contain invalid characters.
* Hardware resource allocation during driver start-up has been optimized and modified to be compatible with Win2K.

Installing under Windows NT 4.0
-------------------------------

Install the Perception 2.61 software if it isn't already installed. Then navigate to your WINNT\System32\Drivers directory, rename the DpsPvr.sys file to DpsPvr.bak, and copy the new DpsPvr.sys file in its place. (For Intel machines, use the driver in the i386 directory. For DEC Alpha machines, use the driver in the alpha directory.) Reboot.

Installing under Windows 2000
-----------------------------

If the PVR software has not been installed yet: Run the Perception Release 2.61 installer. When asked to reboot, say no. Navigate to your WINNT\System32\Drivers directory. Delete the DpsPvr.sys there and replace it with the one in this zip file. Reboot.

If the PVR software has already been installed: The old PVR driver does not operate under Windows 2000 and bluescreens on boot up. Therefore, you have two options: If you can access your WINNT\System32\Drivers directory from another partition or from another OS, you can replace the old DpsPvr.sys file with the new one in this zip file and reboot. Or, you can boot with "Last Known Good Configuration" and reinstall the Perception software, then replace the DpsPvr.sys file before rebooting. Use the driver in the i386 folder.

Note: When the Perception hardware is first installed, Windows 2000 will prompt you for drivers. You may simply cancel these prompts and continue with normal installation.
