Decision PCCOM PCI Windows 95/98 Device Driver Welcome to the Decision PCCOM PCI cards series. This series enables you to utilize the built in plug and play functionality of Windows 95/98, combined with the power of PCI based serial communication. Device Installation: 1. For optimum PnP functionality, please install one card at a time. 2. Unplug your PC, open it and install one Decision PCCOM PCI card 3. Start your computer and wait until Windows 95/98 is loaded 4. Windows 95/98 will detect the new PCI card that is installed in your computer, and will prompt you for a proper driver 5. Insert the device driver disk or CD-ROM into your computer, and make sure Windows 95/98 finds the drivers by eventually browsing through the directory structure of the disk or CD-ROM 6. After installing the core device drivers for the PCI card, Windows 95/98 will detect and install software for each COM port on the card. This may take 5 to 10 seconds per port. 7. After Windows 95/98 has detected and configured all ports, you may begin using the PCI card. To verify that the installation process completed successfully, please proceed into the Control Panel / System / Device Manager. 8. Locate the additional COM ports in the ports section. 9. For installing additional PCI cards, please continue at 1. Device Configuration: Due to the Plug And Play nature of Windows 95/98, only minimal configuration is available for the Decision PCCOM PCI cards. Mainly, you can configure the default port settings for each COM port, and you can configure the COM port assignment, i.e. which ports (COM5:, COM10:, ...) are assigned to your PCI card. To configure the default port settings, proceed the following way: 1. Open the Control Panel / System / Device Manager 2. In the "Ports" section, locate the COM Port you would like to configure. 3. Press the "Properties" button 4. In the "Port Settings" tab, select the desired baud rate, parity, etc. To configure the COM port assignment, proceed the following way: 1. Open the Control Panel / System / Device Manager 2. In the "Decision PCCOM PCI Cards" section, locate the PCI card which you would like to configure. 3. Press the "Properties" button 4. In the "First COM Port" tab, you can choose which COM port should be the first one on your card. The remaining ports are assigned in order. I.e. If you have a 4-Port Card, and you choose COM5: as the first port, the other ports will be assigned to be COM6:, COM7:, COM8:. 5. You have to manually ensure that the port settings you are making are not conflicting with other cards in your system. 6. After you have made your desired selection, please reboot your machine in order for the changes to take effect. Device Removal: To remove a Decision PCCOM PCI card, please proceed the following way: 1. Open the Control Panel / System / Device Manager 2. In the "Decision PCCOM PCI Cards" section, locate the PCI card which you would like to remove. 3. Press the "Remove" button 4. Windows 95/98 will automatically delete the associated COM ports with this card. Full Duplex RS485 Operation: The Decision PCCOM PCI card driver for Windows 95 now features Full Duplex RS-485 operation by automatic RTS transceiver line switching. With this feature, even standard software can run on RS-485 two wire lines, since the line transmitters are switched on automatically. This feature can be enabled for each port separately. For configuring this mode, simply edit the port configuration under Control Panels / System / Device Manager and edit the properties for the port. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
